L310F HYBRID TRANSMISSION FLUID REPLACEMENT

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

CAUTION:

Be careful not to burn yourself when the transmission fluid temperature is high.
To prevent burns, do not touch the engine, exhaust pipe or other high temperature components while the engine is hot.

PROCEDURE

REMOVE TRANSMISSION UNDER COVER

REPLACE TRANSMISSION FLUID
1. Lift the vehicle. [*1]
  
  Note
  
  The transmission fluid level cannot be measured accurately if the vehicle is not level. Make sure it is held level.
2. Remove the drain plug and gasket from the hybrid vehicle transmission assembly and drain the transmission fluid. [*2]
3. Temporarily install the gasket and the drain plug to the hybrid vehicle transmission assembly. [*3]
  
  Tech Tips
  
  Gasket replacement and tightening are performed at step [*17].
4. Remove the refill plug and gasket from the hybrid vehicle transmission assembly. [*4]
  
  CAUTION:
  
  Make sure not to touch the high temperature parts such as the exhaust pipe, etc.
5. Using a 5 mm hexagon socket wrench, remove the overflow plug and gasket from the hybrid vehicle transmission assembly. [*5]
6. Add transmission fluid to the refill hole until it flows out of the overflow hole. [*6]
  Note
  
  Use Toyota Genuine ATF WS.
  
  Be sure to add transmission fluid slowly. If transmission fluid is added quickly, the transmission fluid may hit internal parts and bounce back, resulting in transmission fluid coming out of the refill hole.
7. Wait until the transmission fluid flow slows and only drips come out. [*7]
8. Using a 5 mm hexagon socket wrench, temporarily install the overflow plug and gasket to the hybrid vehicle transmission assembly. [*8]
  
  Tech Tips
  
  Reuse the old gasket as the overflow plug will be removed again.
9. Pour the specified amount of transmission fluid into the refill hole. [*9]
  
  Specified Amount of Fluid
  
  1.6 liters (1.7 US qts, 1.4 Imp. qts)
  Note
  
  Use Toyota Genuine ATF WS.
  
  Be sure to add transmission fluid slowly. If transmission fluid is added quickly, the transmission fluid may hit internal parts and bounce back, resulting in transmission fluid coming out of the refill hole.
10. Temporarily install the gasket and the refill plug to the hybrid vehicle transmission assembly. [*10]
  
  Tech Tips
  
  Gasket replacement and tightening of the refill plug are performed after the transmission fluid level is adjusted.
11. Lower the vehicle. [*11]
12. Depress and hold the brake pedal. [*12]
13. Turn the power switch on (READY). [*13]
  
  Note
  
  To reduce load, make sure that all electrical systems, such as the air conditioning and audio system are off.
14. Slowly move the shift position from P to M in the order of P → R → N → D → M, and then move the shift position back to P. [*14]
  
  Tech Tips
  
  Keep the shift lever in each position for approximately 3 seconds.
15. With the power switch on (READY), turn the hybrid system on for 30 seconds. [*15]
16. Turn the power switch off. [*16]
17. Repeat steps. [*1] to [*16]
18. Repeat steps. [*1] to [*2]
19. *1 Gasket
  
  Install the drain plug and a new gasket to the hybrid vehicle transmission assembly. [*17]
  
  Torque:
  
  20 N*m { 204 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf }
  
  Note
  
  Install the flat side of the gasket to the drain plug side.
20. Repeat steps [*4] to [*11].
