OUTER REAR VIEW MIRROR INSPECTION

PROCEDURE

1. INSPECT OUTER REAR VIEW MIRROR ASSEMBLY LH

   
   

   1. Check the operation of the retractable mirror.

      Note

      
      

      • Disconnect and reconnect the battery between each mirror position check.

      • The mirror position cannot be changed manually when the battery is connected. To change the mirror position manually, the battery must be disconnected first.

      
      
      1. 

         *a	(A) Forward position
         *b	(B)
         *c	(C) Driving position
         *d	(D)
         *e	(E) Retracted position
         *f	Component without harness connected (Outer Rear View Mirror Assembly LH)

         Disconnect the outer rear view mirror assembly LH connector.

      2. For each position: Disconnect the battery, set the mirror position by hand, connect the battery, and check the retractable mirror movement.

         OK

         If the result is not as specified, replace the outer rear view mirror assembly LH.

   2. Check the operation of the mirror surface.

      
      
      1. 

         *a	Component without harness connected (Outer Rear View Mirror Assembly LH)

         Disconnect the outer rear view mirror assembly LH connector.

      2. Apply battery voltage to the terminals of the connector, and check the operation of the mirror.

         OK
         Battery Connection Specified Condition Battery positive (+) → 1 (MV) Battery negative (-) → 10 (M+) Turns upward Battery positive (+) → 10 (M+) Battery negative (-) → 1 (MV) Turns downward Battery positive (+) → 9 (MH) Battery negative (-) → 10 (M+) Turns right Battery positive (+) → 10 (M+) Battery negative (-) → 9 (MH) Turns left

         If the result is not as specified, replace the outer rear view mirror assembly LH.

   3. Check the operation of the mirror heater. (w/ Mirror Heater)

      
      
      1. 

         *a	Component without harness connected (Outer Rear View Mirror Assembly LH)

         Disconnect the outer rear view mirror assembly LH connector.

      2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

         Standard Resistance
         Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition 4 (+) - 12 (-) 25°C (75°F) 3.8 to 5.2 Ω

         If the result is not as specified, replace the outer rear view mirror assembly LH.

      3. Connect the cable from the battery positive (+) to 4 and the battery negative (-) to 12, and then check that the mirror becomes warm.

         Tech Tips

         It takes a short time for the mirror to become warm.

         OK
         Mirror becomes warm.

         If the result is not as specified, replace the outer rear view mirror assembly LH.

   4. 

      *a	Component without harness connected (Outer Rear View Mirror Assembly LH)

      Check the side turn signal light assembly LH.

      
      

      1. Apply battery voltage to the terminals of the connector, and check the illumination condition.

         OK
         Battery Connection Specified Condition Battery positive (+) → 16 (B) Battery negative (-) → 12 (-) Side turn signal light illuminates

         If the result is not as specified, replace the outer rear view mirror assembly LH.

   5. Check the EC mirror operation.

      
      

      1. Connect a new 1.5 V dry-cell battery.

      2. 

         *a	Component without harness connected (Outer Rear View Mirror Assembly LH)
         *b	Bright
         *c	Dark

         Apply 1.5 V dry-cell battery voltage and check operation of the mirror face as shown in the table and illustration.

         OK
         1.5 V Dry-cell Battery Connection Specified Condition Positive (+) end of the 1.5 V dry-cell battery → 7 (EC+) Negative (-) end of the 1.5 V dry-cell battery → 15 (EC-) Mirror surface becomes dark

         Note

         Do not apply a voltage of 1.5 V or higher.

         If the result is not as specified, replace the outer rear view mirror assembly LH.

2. INSPECT OUTER REAR VIEW MIRROR ASSEMBLY RH

   
   

   1. Check the operation of the retractable mirror.

      Note

         If the result is not as specified, replace the outer rear view mirror assembly RH.

   2. Check the operation of the mirror surface.

      2. Apply battery voltage and check the operation of the mirror.

         OK

         If the result is not as specified, replace the outer rear view mirror assembly RH.

   3. Check the operation of the mirror heater.

      
      
      1. 

         *a	Component without harness connected (Outer Rear View Mirror Assembly RH)

         Disconnect the outer rear view mirror assembly RH connector.

      2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      3. Connect the cable from the positive (+) battery terminal to terminal 4 and the negative (-) battery terminal to terminal 12, and then check that the mirror becomes warm.

         Tech Tips

         It takes a short time for the mirror to become warm.

         OK
         Mirror becomes warm.

         If the result is not as specified, replace the outer rear view mirror assembly RH.

   4. 

      *a	Component without harness connected (Outer Rear View Mirror Assembly RH)

      Check the side turn signal light assembly RH.

      
      

      1. Apply battery voltage to the terminals of the connector, and check the illumination condition.

         OK
         Battery Connection Specified Condition Battery positive (+) → 16 (B) Battery negative (-) → 12 (-) Side turn light illuminates

         If the result is not as specified, replace the outer rear view mirror assembly RH.

   5. Check the EC mirror operation. (w/ EC Mirror)
