BACK WINDOW GLASS INSTALLATION

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

Note

Make sure to use Toyota Genuine Windshield Glass Adhesive (High Modulus Type) or an equivalent high modulus adhesive.

PROCEDURE


  1. CLEAN BACK WINDOW GLASS


    1. When reusing the back window glass:


      1. B000VK4

        Using a gasket scraper, remove any remaining adhesive dam and adhesive residue from the back window glass.

        Note

        Be careful not to damage the back window glass.

    2. Clean the outer circumference of the back window glass with a non-residue solvent.

      Note


      • Do not touch the back window glass surface after cleaning it.

      • Even if using a new back window glass, clean the windshield glass with a non-residue solvent.

  2. INSTALL NO. 2 BACK WINDOW GLASS SPACER


    1. Apply the glass primer to the No. 2 back window glass spacer installation surface of the back window glass.

      Note

      Do not apply too much primer.

    2. Remove the peeling paper from a new No. 2 back window glass spacer.

      Tech Tips

      After removing the peeling paper, keep the exposed adhesive free from foreign matter.

      Install the No. 2 back window glass spacer to the back window glass as shown in the illustration.

      Note

      Allow the primer to dry for 3 minutes or more.

  3. INSTALL NO. 1 BACK WINDOW GLASS SPACER


    1. Apply the glass primer to the No. 1 back window glass spacer installation surface of the back window glass.

      Note

      Do not apply too much primer.

    2. Remove the peeling paper from a new No. 1 back window glass spacer.

      Tech Tips

      After removing the peeling paper, keep the exposed adhesive free from foreign matter.

      Install the No. 1 back window glass spacer to the back window glass as shown in the illustration.

      Note

      Allow the primer to dry for 3 minutes or more.

  4. INSTALL BACK WINDOW GLASS SPACER

    Tech Tips

    Use the same procedure to remove the back window glass spacer on the other side.


    1. Apply the glass primer to the back window glass spacer installation surface of the back window glass.

      Note

      Do not apply too much primer.

    2. Remove the peeling paper from a new back window glass spacer.

      Tech Tips

      After removing the peeling paper, keep the exposed adhesive free from foreign matter.

  5. INSTALL LIGHT WIRE

      Apply the glass primer to the light wire installation surface of the back window glass.

      Remove the peeling paper from a new light wire.

      Tech Tips

      After removing the peeling paper, keep the exposed adhesive free from foreign matter.

      Align a new light wire to the alignment mark shown in the illustration (ceramic protrusion) on the back window glass while and install it.

      Note

      Allow the primer to dry for 3 minutes or more.

  6. INSTALL CENTER STOP BRACKET


    1. Apply the glass primer to the center stop bracket installation surface of the back window glass.

      Note

      Do not apply too much primer.

      Install each piece of the double-sided tape as shown in the illustration.

    4. Install the center stop bracket to the back window glass as shown in the illustration.

      Note

      Allow the primer to dry for 3 minutes or more.

  7. INSTALL CENTER STOP LIGHT BRACKET LH


    1. Apply the glass primer to the center stop light bracket LH installation surface of the back window glass.

      Note

      Do not apply too much primer.

      Install the each double-sided tapes as shown in the illustration.

  8. INSTALL UPPER OUTSIDE BACK WINDOW MOULDING RH


    1. Apply the glass primer to the upper outside back window moulding RH installation surface of the back window glass.

      Note

      Do not apply too much primer.

    2. Remove the peeling paper from a new upper outside back window moulding RH.

      Tech Tips

      After removing the peeling paper, keep the exposed adhesive free from foreign matter.

    1. Apply the glass primer to the upper outside back window moulding LH installation surface of the back window glass.

    2. Remove the peeling paper from a new upper outside back window moulding LH.

      Tech Tips

      After removing the peeling paper, keep the exposed adhesive free from foreign matter.

  10. INSTALL BACK WINDOW GLASS ADHESIVE DAM


    1. Installation position lower side:

    2. Apply the glass primer to the back window glass adhesive dam installation surface of the back window glass.

      Note

      Do not apply too much primer.

    3. Remove the peeling paper from a new back window glass adhesive dam.

      After removing the peeling paper, keep the exposed adhesive free from foreign matter.

    4. Install the back window glass adhesive dam to the back window glass as shown in the illustration.

    1. Apply the glass primer to the window glass adhesive dam installation surface of the back window glass.

      Note

      Do not apply too much primer.

    2. Remove the peeling paper from a new window glass adhesive dam.

      Tech Tips

      After removing the peeling paper, keep the exposed adhesive free from foreign matter.

    3. Install the window glass adhesive dam to the back window glass as shown in the illustration.

  12. INSTALL NO. 1 REAR WINDOW WIRE

      Connect the connector and install the No. 1 rear window wire.

  13. INSTALL BACK WINDOW GLASS


    1. Clean and shape the contact surface of the vehicle body.

        Using a knife, cut away excess adhesive on the contact surface of the vehicle body as shown in the illustration.

        a 1.0 mm (0.0394 in.) to 3.0 mm (0.118in.)

        Note

        Be careful not to damage the vehicle body.

        Tech Tips

        Leave approximately 1.0 mm (0.0394 in.) of adhesive on the vehicle body.

      2. Clean the contact surface of the vehicle body with non-residue solvent.

        Tech Tips

        Even if all of the adhesive has been removed, clean the vehicle body.

    2. Position the windshield glass.


      1. Using suction cups, place the windshield glass in the correct position.

      2. Check that the entire contact surface of the glass rim is perfectly even.

        When using a new back window glass:

        Place matchmarks on the back window glass and vehicle body at the locations indicated in the illustration.

        Tech Tips

        When reusing the back window glass check and correct the match mark positions.

      4. Using suction cups, remove the windshield glass.

      5. Using a brush or sponge, coat the body primer to the exposed part of the vehicle body.

        Note


        • Do not apply too much primer.

        • Do not apply primer to the adhesive.

        • When applying the primer, take care of the seams of the panel and spot welds.

    3. Using a brush or sponge, coat the glass primer as shown in the illustration.

    5. Load the sealer gun with the cartridge.

    6. Apply adhesive to the glass as shown in the illustration.

    7. Install the back window glass to the vehicle body.

        Using suction cups, position the back window glass so that the matchmarks are aligned.

        Note


        • Check that the No. 1 windshield stopper and the No. 2 windshield stopper are attached to the vehicle body correctly.

        • Check that the vehicle body and glass have a small gap between them.

      2. Press it in gently along the rim.

        Tech Tips

        Press the glass with force of 98 N (10 kgf, 22.0 lbf) or more.

      3. Using a gasket scraper, remove any excess or protruding adhesive.

        Note

        Apply adhesive as far as the edge of the back window glass.

      4. Hold the back window glass using protective tape until the applied adhesive becomes hard.

        Note

        Do not drive the vehicle for the time described in the table below.

    8. Connect the each connector.

  14. CHECK FOR LEAK AND REPAIR


    1. Conduct a leak test after the adhesive has completely hardened.

    2. Seal any leaks with auto glass sealer.

    3. Remove the protective tape and match mark.
