PRECAUTION
PARKING BRAKE FORCED RELEASE
CAUTION:
If work is performed without first securing the vehicle, the vehicle may start moving and cause a serious accident or other disaster. Therefore, be sure to apply the use wheel chocks to secure the vehicle before performing work.
Work on a level surface to ensure safety.
Note
When moving the vehicle after the forced release of the parking brake, install all parts except the connector shown in the illustration.
A DTC may be output when the engine switch is turned on (IG) or (READY) when the connector shown in the illustration is disconnected. Clear the DTCs after performing the work.
If the DTCs are cleared but do not disappear:
Park the vehicle on a level surface and move the shift lever to P.
Turn the engine switch off and chock the wheels.
Remove the No. 1 deck board.
Remove the No. 2 deck board.
Remove the rear floor finish plate.
Remove the luggage compartment trim cover LH.
Remove the luggage compartment trim box.
Remove the No. 1 luggage compartment light assembly.
Remove the front luggage compartment trim cover.
Remove the inner luggage compartment trim cover LH.
Disconnect the connector shown in the illustration.
Connect SST to SST.
Tech Tips
When using SST (09756-48070), use 2 of the 3 connectors.

Connect SST to the parking brake ECU assembly connector inside of the vehicle.
Connect SST to the battery inside of the vehicle.
Push the release button on SST with the brake pedal depressed.
CAUTION:
The vehicle may suddenly move when the parking brake is released. Make sure to perform the release operation with the brake pedal depressed.
Note
After the FINISHED light illuminates on SST (09756-48070), do not perform the operation again.
If the release button on SST (09756-48020) is pressed more than twice at a time, it may damage the parking brake assembly.
Tech Tips
Confirm that the parking brake is operating by listening for operation sounds.
The parking brake may not release if the battery voltage is too low. In this case, perform the release operation again using a fully charged or new battery.
When the FINISHED light of SST illuminates, release the brake pedal.
Move the vehicle forward and rearward to check that the parking brake is released.
CAUTION:
Be careful when performing this operation. The vehicle may suddenly move.
Note
When moving the vehicle after the forced release of the parking brake, check that the connector shown in the illustration is disconnected.
The brake warning light (yellow) turns on when the vehicle is moved with the connector shown in the illustration disconnected.
Make sure to enter the diagnostic mode and clear the DTCs after performing the procedures.
