  • Use the table below to help determine the cause of problem symptoms. If multiple suspected areas are listed, the potential causes of the problem symptoms are listed in order of probability in the "Suspected Area" column of the table. Check each symptom by checking the suspected areas in the order they are listed. Replace parts as necessary.

  • Inspect the fuses and relays related to this system before inspecting the suspected areas below.

The shift state cannot be changed to neutral (N). Shift lever operation time was too short (Hold the shift lever in N for a short time) -
Shift lever was not held in N long enough while stopped or driving at low speed

The shift state changed to a different state than intended according to shift lever operation. After selecting shift state, shift lever was manually returned and was moved to another position unintentionally

The shift state changed to neutral (N) unintentionally. Shift lever was operated while driving or moved due to an object hanging from it

"Shift system unavailable Apply parking brake securely when parking See owner's manual" is displayed. Engine switch was pressed repeatedly or pressed and held to stop engine before vehicle was stopped

Communication with shift control ECU stopped.

Turn the engine switch on (IG), select shift state neutral (N) and wait for 3 seconds.

  • If the problem symptom does not recur, check the ECM (Intermittent malfunction).
