METER / GAUGE SYSTEM Engine Oil Temperature Gauge Malfunction

DESCRIPTION

In this circuit, the combination meter assembly receives engine coolant temperature signals from the oil temperature sensor via direct line. The combination meter assembly displays the engine coolant temperature that is calculated based on the data received from the oil temperature sensor.

Note

When replacing the combination meter assembly, always replace it with a new one. If a combination meter assembly which was installed to another vehicle is used, the information stored in it will not match the information from the vehicle and a DTC may be stored.

  1. CHECK FOR DTC


    1. Check for DTCs.

  2. READ VALUE USING GTS (COOLANT TEMPERATURE)


    1. Using the GTS, read the Data List.

  3. INSPECT OIL TEMPERATURE SENSOR


    1. Remove the oil temperature sensor.

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY - OIL TEMPERATURE SENSOR AND BODY GOUND)


    1. Disconnect the P25 combination meter assembly connector.

    2. Disconnect the G77 oil temperature sensor connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      P25-24 (GAGE) - G77-1 (OT+) Always Below 1 Ω
      P25-32 (GND) - G77-2 (OT-) Always Below 1 Ω
      P25-31 (ES) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      P25-24 (GAGE) - Other terminals and body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      P25-32 (GND) - Other terminals and body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
