AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SYSTEM INITIALIZATION

  1. PERFORM ROAD TEST TO ALLOW ECM TO LEARN

    CAUTION:

    • Perform the following procedures while strictly observing all traffic laws and speed limits.

    • Do not accelerate or decelerate rapidly.

    1. The Road Test procedure is as follows:

      1. Warm up the engine.

      2. According to the replaced parts, perform the appropriate road test shown below.

        Replaced Parts Road Test

        • Automatic transmission assembly

        • ECM

        • Transmission valve body assembly

        • Solenoid (SL1) valve

        • Solenoid (SL2) valve

        • Solenoid (SL3) valve

        • Solenoid (SL4) valve

        • Solenoid (SL5) valve

        • Solenoid (SL6) valve

        • Engine assembly

With the shift state in drive (D), after gradually accelerating to 50 km/h (31 mph) or more, gradually stop the vehicle.

        Tech Tips

        • After gradually accelerating for a distance of approximately 130 m (426.4 ft.) for a period of approximately 15 seconds, gradually decelerate for a distance of approximately 130 m (426.4 ft.) for a period of approximately 15 seconds.

        • When decelerating, apply the brakes as necessary to adjust the vehicle speed.

        Note

        • *1: The speed, time and distance values are approximate values.

        • *2: After accelerating, deceleration does not need to be performed immediately.

      3. Repeat the road tests until the shift shock and engine speed overrun (engine speed flare when shifting) reach an acceptable level.

        Note

When repeating the acceleration/deceleration cycle of a road test pattern, bring the vehicle to a complete stop before accelerating again.

  2. RESET MEMORY

    Note

    • Perform Reset Memory (AT initialization) when replacing the engine assembly.

    • Reset Memory can be performed only with the GTS.

    • Reset Memory cannot be completed by only disconnecting and reconnecting the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.

    Tech Tips

The ECM (ECT) memorizes the vehicle conditions when controlling the automatic transmission assembly and engine assembly.

    1. The "Reset Memory" procedure is as follows:

      1. Turn the engine switch off.

      2. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

      3. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

      4. Turn the GTS on.

      5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Transmission / Utility / Reset Memory.

        Powertrain > Transmission > Utility
        Tester Display
        Reset Memory

        Note

After performing Reset Memory, be sure to perform "Perform Road Test to Allow ECM to Learn" described earlier.

  3. ATF THERMAL DEGRADATION ESTIMATE RESET

    Note

If either of the following conditions is met, perform ATF Thermal Degradation Estimate Reset.

    • The ATF has been replaced.

      Tech Tips

If 50000 or more is displayed for the Data List item "ATF Thermal Degradation Estimate", thermal degradation of the ATF is suspected. Perform ATF Thermal Degradation Estimate Reset after replacing the ATF.

    • Approximately 50% or more of the ATF has been replaced during a repair of the transmission or a similar operation.

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

      Note

      Do not start the engine.

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Transmission / Utility / ATF Thermal Degradation Estimate Reset.

      Powertrain > Transmission > Utility
      Tester Display
      ATF Thermal Degradation Estimate Reset
