SFI SYSTEM(w/ Canister Pump Module) Starter Signal Circuit

DESCRIPTION

While the engine is being cranked, current flows from terminal STAR of the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) to terminal STA of the ECM (STA signal).

Note


  • After turning engine switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal notices before proceeding with work.

PROCEDURE


  1. CHECK WHETHER ENGINE CAN BE CRANKED


    1. Check if the engine can be cranked.

  2. READ VALUE USING GTS (STARTER SIGNAL)


    1. Connect the GTS to DLC3.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / All Data / Starter Signal.


      Powertrain > Engine > Data List
      Tester Display
      Starter Signal
    5. Check the value displayed on the GTS when the engine switch is turned on (IG) and the engine is started.

  3. INSPECT ST NO. 1 RELAY

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ST NO. 1 RELAY - STARTER ASSEMBLY)


    1. Remove the ST NO. 1 relay from the No. 1 engine room relay block and junction block assembly.

    2. Disconnect the starter assembly connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      3 (ST NO. 1 relay holder) - G48-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      3 (ST NO. 1 relay holder) or G48-1 - Body ground and other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATTERY - STARTER ASSEMBLY)


    1. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the positive (+) battery terminal.

    3. Disconnect the starter assembly connector.

    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ST NO. 1 RELAY - BODY GROUND)


    1. Remove the ST NO. 1 relay from the No. 1 engine room relay block and junction block assembly.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    2. Disconnect the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    1. Disconnect the ECM connector.

    2. Remove the ST NO. 1 relay from the No. 1 engine room relay block and junction bloc assembly.

    3. Disconnect the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) connector.

    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A20-9 (STAR) - A58-43 (STA) Always Below 1 Ω
      A20-9 (STAR) or A58-43 (STA) - Body ground and other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher
