PRECAUTION FOR DISCONNECTING CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
Note
When disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, initialize the following systems after the cable is reconnected.
| System Name | See Procedure |
|---|---|
| Lane departure alert system (w/ Steering Control) | |
| Pre-collision system | |
| Parking assist monitor system |
If the battery has been discharged and charged or the cable has been disconnected and reconnected to the negative (-) battery terminal, perform Steering Sensor Zero Point Calibration.
IGNITION SWITCH EXPRESSIONS
The type of ignition switch used on this model differs according to the specifications of the vehicle. The expressions listed in the table below are used in this section.
| Expression | Ignition Switch (Position) | Engine Switch (Condition) |
|---|---|---|
| Ignition Switch off | LOCK | Off (Lock) |
| Ignition Switch ACC | ACC | On (ACC) |
| Ignition Switch ON | ON | On (IG) |
| Engine start | START | On (Start) |
PRECAUTION BEFORE SERVICING
Make sure to turn the pre-collision system off in the following situations, as it may operate unexpectedly or may not operate when necessary.
When the vehicle is being towed.
When the vehicle is towing another vehicle.
When transporting the vehicle via truck, boat, train or similar means of transportation.
When the vehicle is raised on a lift with the engine running and the tires are allowed to rotate freely.
When inspecting the vehicle using a drum tester such as a chassis dynamometer or speedometer tester, or when using an on vehicle wheel balancer.
When a strong impact has been applied to the front bumper or front grille, due to an accident or other reason.
If the vehicle cannot be driven in a stable manner, such as when the vehicle has been in an accident or is malfunctioning.
When the vehicle is driven in a sporty manner or off-road.
When the tires are not properly inflated.
When the tires are excessively worn.
When tires of a size other than specified are installed.
When tire chains are installed.
When a compact spare tire or an emergency tire puncture repair kit is used.
If equipment (snow plow, etc.) that may obstruct the millimeter wave radar sensor assembly or forward recognition camera is temporarily installed to the vehicle.
TROUBLESHOOTING PRECAUTIONS
If a terminal contact malfunction or part installation problem occurs, removal and reinstallation of the suspected part may return the system to normal. However, be aware that the normal condition may only be temporary.
Before disconnecting connectors or removing/installing parts, determine the malfunctioning area by checking and writing down the vehicle conditions (output DTCs, etc.) at the time the malfunction occurred.
Be sure to check for DTCs related to other systems. The pre-collision system may be influenced by malfunctions in other systems.
HANDLING PRECAUTIONS
When removing and installing ECUs, sensors, switches or other pre-collision system related parts, perform the following:
Make sure that the ignition switch is off unless otherwise specified in the procedure.
After removal/installation, check for DTCs and confirm that a normal system code is output.
REPLACEMENT PRECAUTIONS
Millimeter Wave Radar Sensor Assembly:
When replacing the millimeter wave radar sensor assembly, always replace it with a new one. If a millimeter wave radar sensor assembly which was installed to another vehicle is used, the information stored in it will not match the information from the vehicle. As a result, a DTC may be stored.
If the millimeter wave radar sensor assembly has been replaced, be sure to perform millimeter wave radar sensor assembly adjustment.
Forward Recognition Camera:
If the forward recognition camera has been replaced with a new one or the windshield glass has been removed and installed, it is necessary to perform forward recognition camera adjustment. If the system is turned on without performing forward recognition camera adjustment, DTC C1AA9 will be stored.
When replacing the forward recognition camera, replace it with a new one. If a forward recognition camera which was installed to another vehicle is used, the information stored in the forward recognition camera will not match the information from the vehicle. As a result, a DTC may be stored.
When installing the forward recognition camera, be careful not to damage the camera lens or allow it to become contaminated with foreign matter.
Do not reuse a forward recognition camera that has been dropped or subjected to a strong impact.
Windshield Glass:
When replacing the windshield glass of a vehicle equipped with a forward recognition camera, make sure to use a Toyota genuine part. If a non-Toyota genuine part is used, the forward recognition camera may not be able to be installed due to a missing bracket or the pre-collision system may not operate properly due to a difference in the transmissivity or black ceramic border.
Do not attach stickers, including transparent stickers, or other items to the outer side of the windshield glass within the area in front of the forward recognition camera.
