STEERING LOCK SYSTEM PRECAUTION

  1. PRECAUTION FOR DISCONNECTING CABLE FROM NEGATIVE AUXILIARY BATTERY TERMINAL

    Note

When disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal, initialize the following system(s) after the cable is reconnected:

    System See Procedure
Parking Assist Monitor System (w/ Parallel Parking Assist Function)

Parking Assist Monitor System (w/o Parallel Parking Assist Function)
  2. PRECAUTIONS WHEN CHECKING FOR DTCS

    1. When the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal, the DTCs stored in the steering lock ECU (steering lock actuator assembly) are cleared. Be sure to record any output DTCs immediately.

    2. Normally, with the power switch off, even if the GTS is connected to the vehicle, the information stored in the entry and start system related ECUs (the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly), main body ECU, etc.) cannot be read. However, entry and start system DTCs and Data List information can be confirmed even if the power switch is off using either of the two methods below:

      • Connect the GTS to the vehicle and turn a courtesy light switch on and off at intervals of 1.5 seconds or less until communication between the GTS and the vehicle begins (the GTS screen changes when communication begins).

      • Connect the GTS to the vehicle and select the Model Code "KEY REGIST" under manual mode and enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Entry&Start(CAN).

  3. PRECAUTIONS WHEN REPLACING STEERING LOCK ECU (STEERING LOCK ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY)

    1. If the steering lock ECU (steering lock actuator assembly) is replaced, be sure to confirm that the steering is unlocked by turning the steering wheel to the left and right before starting the hybrid control system. If the steering is locked for any reason, open and close a door with the power switch off, and then unlock the steering lock by pressing the power switch. This prevents the hybrid control system from starting while the steering is locked.

  4. PRECAUTION FOR REGISTRATION

    1. If replacing any of the following parts, refer to Service Bulletin.

      1. Certification ECU (Smart key ECU assembly)

      2. Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly

      3. Steering lock ECU (Steering lock actuator assembly)

      4. Key (Electrical key transmitter sub-assembly)

      5. ID code box (Immobiliser code ECU)

      6. Main body ECU (Multiplex network body ECU)

  5. PRECAUTIONS FOR STEERING LOCK / UNLOCK FUNCTION

    1. After turning the power switch off and opening and closing any of the doors, the steering wheel will be locked due to the steering lock function. Operating the power switch again automatically cancels the steering lock function.

    2. To prevent the steering lock motor from overheating, the motor operation may be suspended if the steering is locked and unlocked repeatedly in a short period of time. In this case, refrain from operating the power switch. After about 10 seconds, the steering lock motor will resume functioning.
