FRONT BRAKE DISASSEMBLY

PROCEDURE


  1. REMOVE CYLINDER BOOT

      *1 Cylinder Boot
      *2 Front Disc Brake Piston
      *3 Dust Seal Retainer

      Remove the 4 cylinder boots from the front disc brake cylinder.

      Note

      To prevent the dust seal retainers from being removed or scratched, always remove the cylinder boots by hand and not using a tool such as a screwdriver.

      Tech Tips

      If a dust seal retainer has been scratched or has separated from the front disc brake cylinder, replace the front disc brake cylinder.

  2. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE PISTON

      *a 170 mm (6.69 in.)
      *b 50 mm (1.97 in.)
      *c 30 mm (1.18 in.)

      Prepare a wooden plate to hold the front disc brake pistons.

      *a Wooden Plate

      Install one of the front disc brake pads.

    3. Install a wooden plate between the front disc brake pistons of the front disc brake cylinder to prevent the front disc brake pistons from jumping out.

    4. Using an air gun, gradually apply compressed air and remove the 2 front disc brake pistons from the front disc brake cylinder.

      CAUTION:

      Do not place your fingers in front of the front disc brake piston when using compressed air.

      Note

      Do not allow any brake fluid to spatter.

    5. Remove the front disc brake pad and wooden plate.

    6. Temporarily install the 2 front disc brake pistons. Then install the front disc brake pad to the side in which the 2 front disc brake pistons are temporarily installed.

    7. Install a wooden plate between the front disc brake pistons of the front disc brake cylinder to prevent the front disc brake pistons from jumping out.

    8. Using an air gun, gradually apply compressed air and remove the 2 front disc brake pistons from the other side of the front disc brake cylinder.

      CAUTION:

      Do not place your fingers in front of the front disc brake piston when using compressed air.

      Note

      Do not allow any brake fluid to spatter.

  3. REMOVE PISTON SEAL

    *a Protective Tape

    1. Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped with protective tape, remove the 4 piston seals from the front disc brake cylinder.

      Note

      Do not damage the inner surface or piston seal groove of the front disc brake cylinder.

  4. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE BLEEDER PLUG CAP
