AUTO WIPER FAIL-SAFE FUNCTION
If the wiper system is malfunctioning, the front wiper motor and link assembly performs a fail-safe function to control the system.
| Item | Fail-Safe Function | Conditions to Return to Normal Condition |
|---|---|---|
| Overheat protection | Decreases wiper operating speed in order to protect the front wiper motor and link assembly if the front wiper motor and link assembly temperature becomes excessively high.
|
The front wiper motor and link assembly returns to normal. |
| Snow protection | Reverses the direction of the front wipers when an excessive load is detected near the extremities of the front wiper operating range. | Foreign matter, such as snow, is removed and the front wiper operating range returns to normal. |
| Excessive load protection | Stops wiper operation when an excessive load is detected when the front wipers are near the center of the front wiper operating range. | The front wiper switch is turned off and then to any operating position. |
RAIN SENSOR FAIL-SAFE FUNCTION
The windshield wiper switch assembly performs a fail-safe function when the wiper system cannot properly receive the necessary signals for wiper system control or a wiper system component is malfunctioning.
| Item | Fail-safe Function | Conditions to Return to Normal Condition |
|---|---|---|
| Rain sensor LIN communication error | Continues control according to the conditions detected before the malfunction. | LIN communication returns to normal. |
| Rain sensor voltage is too low | Rain sensor voltage returns to normal. | |
| Abnormal rain sensor signal | Performs intermittent operation according to the position of the auto sensitivity adjustment switch. | The rain sensor returns to normal. |
| The rain sensor temperature is too high (90°C (194°F) or higher). | Stops the wiper operation. | |
| The rain sensor temperature is too low (-15°C (5°F) or lower). |
