AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID REPLACEMENT

PROCEDURE


  1. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL OPENING EXTENSION PAD LH

  2. REMOVE NO. 3 ENGINE UNDER COVER

    Click here

  3. REMOVE FRONT FENDER APRON SEAL LH

    Click here

  4. REPLACE AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID


    1. Lift the vehicle. [#1]

      Note

      Set the vehicle on a lift so that the vehicle is kept level when it is lifted up (make sure the tilt angle from the front to rear of the vehicle is within +/- 1°).

      Remove the refill plug and gasket from the automatic transaxle case sub-assembly. [#2]

    3. B005LJ4

      Using a T40 "TORX" socket wrench, remove the drain plug and O-ring from the transaxle housing. [#3]

    4. B005N0G

      Using a 17 mm straight hexagon wrench, remove the overflow plug and O-ring from the transaxle housing and drain the automatic transaxle fluid. [#4]

    5. B005OVH

      Measure the amount of automatic transaxle fluid drained. [#5]

      Tech Tips

      Add the same amount of automatic transaxle fluid in step [#8].

    6. B005N0G

      Using a 17 mm straight hexagon wrench, install the overflow plug and a new O-ring to the transaxle housing. [#6]

      Torque:
      47 N*m  { 479 kgf*cm, 35 ft.*lbf }
    7. B005LJ4

      Using a T40 "TORX" socket wrench, temporarily install the O-ring and drain plug to the transaxle housing. [#7]

      Tech Tips

      Reuse the old O-ring as the drain plug will be removed again to adjust the automatic transaxle fluid level.

      Add automatic transaxle fluid to the refill hole using the same amount of automatic transaxle fluid drained in step [#5]. [#8]

      Note

      Use Toyota Genuine ATF WS.

    9. B005LSG

      Temporarily install the gasket and refill plug to avoid automatic transaxle fluid spillage. [#9]

      Tech Tips

      Reuse the old gasket as the refill plug will be removed again to adjust the automatic transaxle fluid level.

    10. Lower the vehicle. [#10]

    11. Start the engine. [#11]

    12. Slowly move the shift lever from P to D, and then back to P. [#12]

      Tech Tips

      Slowly move the shift lever to circulate the automatic transaxle fluid through each part of the automatic transaxle assembly.

    13. Allow the engine to idle for 30 seconds to warm it up. [#13]

    14. Turn the engine switch off. [#14]

    15. Repeat steps [#1] to [#14].

    16. Repeat steps [#1] to [#10].

  5. ADJUST AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID TEMPERATURE (when Using the GTS)
