LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT DOOR CLOSER SYSTEM SYSTEM DESCRIPTION


  1. GENERAL


    1. A signal actuator performs opener and closer functions and is located in the luggage door closer assembly. The closer function automatically closes the luggage compartment door entirely even if only a light pressure is applied to close the luggage compartment door.

    2. The closer operation is canceled and the luggage compartment door opener operates in the following situations: 1) while the closer is operating, the luggage electrical key switch or the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly (luggage door open switch) is pushed, or 2) the luggage compartment door lock cylinder is turned.

    3. This system is controlled by the luggage closer motor assembly*1 or multiplex network door ECU*2. In accordance with the signals received from the switches, the luggage closer motor assembly*1 or multiplex network door ECU*2 controls the closer function by actuating the luggage door closer assembly in order to turn the latch.

  2. FUNCTION OF MAIN COMPONENTS

    The luggage compartment door closer system mainly consists of a luggage door closer assembly and the multiplex network door ECU*1 or luggage closer motor assembly*2. The luggage door closer assembly contains switches and a motor. The system has the functions listed below.

    Luggage door closer assembly In accordance with the signals received from the switches, the luggage compartment door lock automatically closes the luggage compartment door that is ajar to the fully closed state. This is accomplished by actuating the closer motor to push and turn the latch in order to pull the striker in.

    • Changing the switch signal from ON to OFF causes the closer function to start. Furthermore, while the system operates in the closer mode, if the switch detects that the luggage compartment door has been mechanically opened through the operation of the luggage compartment door lock cylinder, it transmits a signal to the luggage closer motor. Upon receiving this signal, the ECU initializes the system to the open completion state.

    • The luggage room light illuminates while this switch outputs an ON signal (with the luggage compartment door open).
    Luggage door closer assembly (luggage closer motor) Actuated by the signals from the luggage closer motor, this motor rotates the latch from the half-latched to the fully latched state.

  3. CONSTRUCTION AND OPERATION


    1. Luggage Door Closer Assembly:


      • The luggage compartment door lock is mounted on the luggage compartment door and consists mainly of a link mechanism and a closer motor. It provides two functions: the closer function to automatically close the luggage compartment door, and the opener function to disengage the striker from the luggage compartment door latch.

      • The luggage compartment door lock contains 1 courtesy light switch and position detection switch in the closer motor.

      1. General

        In the closer mode, this system operates as follows: when the state of the luggage compartment door changes from open to ajar, the signal from the courtesy light switch changes from on to off. Upon receiving this signal, the closer motor actuates the motor in order to push and turn the latch via the link mechanism. As a result, the latch engages with the pole portion of the striker in order to fully close the luggage compartment door.

      3. Fail-safe

        If a system malfunction is detected by the luggage closer motor assembly, the luggage closer motor assembly stops the system. However, even if the system is deactivated, the luggage compartment door can be opened and closed manually.
