WINDSHIELD GLASS REMOVAL

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

The necessary procedures (adjustment, calibration, initialization, or registration) that must be performed after parts are removed, installed, or replaced during the windshield glass removal/installation are shown below.

Note

When replacing the windshield glass of a vehicle equipped with a forward recognition camera, make sure to use a Lexus genuine part. If a non-Lexus genuine part is used, the forward recognition camera may not be able to be installed due to a missing bracket. Also, the LKA/LDA system, front recognition camera system, dynamic radar cruise control system, pre-crash safety system, road sign assist system, adaptive high beam system or automatic high beam system may not operate properly due to a difference in the transmissivity or black ceramic border.

    1. Partially remove the roof headlining.

      Tech Tips

      It is not necessary to completely remove the roof headlining. Slightly lower the front section of the roof headlining so that the windshield glass can be removed in a later step.

    1. w/ Windshield Deicer System:


      1. Disconnect the connector.

      Apply protective tape to the outer surface of the vehicle body to prevent scratches.

      *a Matchmark

      Place matchmarks over the glass and vehicle body on the locations indicated in the illustration.

      Tech Tips

      Matchmarks do not need to be placed if not reusing the glass.

      *1 Windshield Glass Stopper
      *2 Windshield Retainer
      *a Handles
      *b Plastic Sheet
      *c Protective Tape
      *d Piano Wire

      From the interior, insert a piano wire between the vehicle body and glass as shown in the illustration.

    5. Tie objects that can serve as handles (for example, wooden blocks) to both wire ends.

      Note


      • When separating the glass from the vehicle, be careful not to damage the vehicle's paint or interior / exterior ornaments.

      • To prevent the instrument panel from being scratched when removing the glass, place a plastic sheet between the piano wire and instrument panel.

    6. Using suction cups, detach the 2 windshield glass stoppers, 2 windshield retainers and remove the windshield glass.

  28. REMOVE WINDSHIELD GLASS SEAL


    1. When reusing the windshield glass:

        Using a scraper, remove the windshield glass seal from the back side of the windshield glass.

        Note


        • Be careful not to damage the windshield glass.

        • Be sure to replace the windshield glass seal with a new one.

  29. REMOVE WINDOW GLASS ADHESIVE DAM


    1. When reusing the windshield glass:

        Using a scraper, remove the window glass adhesive dam from the back side of the windshield glass.

        Note


        • Be careful not to damage the windshield glass.

        • Be sure to replace the window glass adhesive dam with a new one.

  30. REMOVE WINDSHIELD OUTSIDE MOULDING


    1. When reusing the windshield glass:

        Using a scraper, remove the windshield outside moulding from the back side of the windshield glass.

        Note


        • Be careful not to damage the windshield glass.

        • Be sure to replace the windshield outside moulding with a new one.

  31. REMOVE FRONT WINDOW INNER MOULDING COVER LH


    1. When reusing the windshield glass:

        Using a scraper, remove the front window inner moulding cover LH from the back side of the windshield glass.

        Note


        • Be careful not to damage the windshield glass.

        • Be sure to replace the front window inner moulding cover LH with new ones.

  32. REMOVE FRONT WINDOW INNER MOULDING COVER RH


    1. When reusing the windshield glass:

        Using a scraper, remove the front window inner moulding cover RH from the back side of the windshield glass.

        Note


        • Be careful not to damage the windshield glass.

        • Be sure to replace the front window inner moulding cover RH with new ones.

  33. REMOVE WINDSHIELD GLASS RETAINER


    1. When reusing the windshield glass:

        Using a scraper, remove the 2 windshield glass retainers from the back side of the windshield glass.

        Note


        • Be careful not to damage the windshield glass.

        • Be sure to replace the windshield glass retainers with new ones.

  34. REMOVE NO. 1 WINDSHIELD GLASS STOPPER (for 1-piece Type)


    1. When reusing the windshield glass:

        *a Back Side

        Using a scraper, remove the 2 No. 1 windshield glass stoppers from the back side of the windshield glass.

        Note


        • Be careful not to damage the windshield glass.

        • Be sure to replace the 1-piece type No. 1 windshield glass stoppers with new 2-piece type No. 1 and No. 2 windshield glass stoppers.

  35. REMOVE NO. 2 WINDSHIELD GLASS STOPPER (for 2-piece Type)


    1. When reusing the windshield glass:

        Using a scraper, remove the 2 No. 2 windshield glass stoppers from the back side of the windshield glass.

        Note


        • Be careful not to damage the windshield glass.

        • Be sure to replace the No. 2 windshield glass stoppers with new ones.

  36. REMOVE NO. 1 WINDSHIELD GLASS STOPPER (for 2-piece Type)

      Remove the 2 No. 1 windshield glass stoppers.

      Note

      Be sure to replace the No. 1 windshield glass stoppers with new ones.
