REAR AIRBAG SENSOR REMOVAL

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

The necessary procedures (adjustment, calibration, initialization, or registration) that must be performed after parts are removed, installed, or replaced during the rear airbag sensor removal/installation are shown below.

PROCEDURE


  1. PRECAUTION

    CAUTION:

    Be sure to read Precaution thoroughly before servicing.

    Note

    After turning the engine switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal notices before proceeding with work.

  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

    CAUTION:


    • B002DW2

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    • If the airbag deploys for any reason, it may cause a serious accident.

  3. REMOVE REAR SEAT ASSEMBLY

  4. REMOVE REAR DOOR SCUFF PLATE

  5. REMOVE REAR SEAT SIDE GARNISH

  6. REMOVE REAR AIRBAG SENSOR


    1. Check that the engine switch is off.

    2. Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal.

      CAUTION:


      • B002DW2

        Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

      • B002DNL

        If this procedure is performed without disconnecting the cable from negative (-) battery terminal, the airbag may deploy even if an impact is applied only to the rear airbag sensor. Therefore, make sure that the cable from negative (-) battery terminal is disconnected before performing this procedure.

    3. B002E8T

      Disconnect the connector from the rear airbag sensor.

      Note

      When disconnecting any airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.


      1. Push the housing lock and slide the outer housing. (At this time, the connector cannot be disconnected yet.)

      2. Push the housing lock again and disconnect the connector.

        Note

        Do not push down the part (A) shown in the illustration when disconnecting.

    4. Remove the bolt and rear airbag sensor.

      Note

      Loosen the bolt while holding the rear airbag sensor because the rear airbag sensor pin (stopper) is easily damaged.
