DESCRIPTION

The air cleaner is equipped with two inlets, one of which is opened or closed by the Air Intake Control Valve (AICV). This system reduces intake noise and increases engine power at low-to-high engine speed range. When the engine is operating in the low-to-mid speed range, this control operates the AICV to close one of the air cleaner inlets. When the engine speed is more than 3600 rpm, the ECM activates VSV and opens the AICV.

The following conditions are met simultaneously for 0.5 seconds or more (2 trip detection logic):


  1. Voltage of terminal air intake control valve of the ECM is low when the VSV is off

  2. The engine has been started


  • Open or short in air cleaner case sub-assembly (vaccum swithing valve assembly (for AICV)) circuit

  • Air cleaner case sub-assembly (vaccum swithing valve assembly (for AICV))

  • NO. 1 integration relay

  • ECM

Tech Tips

Read freeze frame data using the GTS. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE


  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING GTS (ACTIVATE THE VSV FOR AICS)

    *b Vacuum Switching Valve is Off

    1. Disconnect the vaccum hope (port F) from the air cleaner case sub-assembly (vaccum swithing valve assembly (for AICV)).

    2. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    3. Start the engine.

    4. Turn the GTS on.

    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Activate the VSV for AICS.


      Powertrain > Engine > Active Test
      Tester Display
      Activate the VSV for AICS
    6. Check the operation of the air cleaner case sub-assembly (vaccum swithing valve assembly (for AICV)) when the air cleaner case sub-assembly (vaccum swithing valve assembly (for AICV)) is operated using the GTS.

    1. Disconnect the air cleaner case sub-assembly (vaccum swithing valve assembly (for AICV)) connector.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

    1. Disconnect the A27 air cleaner case sub-assembly (vaccum swithing valve assembly (for AICV)) connector.

    2. Disconnect the E1 ECM connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      A27-1 - E1-7 (AICV) Always Below 1 Ω

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (NO. 1 INTEGRATION RELAY - AIR CLEANER CASE SUB-ASSEMBLY (VACCUM SWITHING VALVE ASSEMBLY (FOR AICV))


    1. Remove the No. 1 integration relay the No. 2 engine room relay block.

    2. Disconnect the A27 air cleaner case sub-assembly (vaccum swithing valve assembly (for AICV)) connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
