DTC No. Detection Item DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area MIL Memory
P0088 Fuel Rail / System Pressure - Too High

Although the ECM is not requesting fuel pump with seal sub-assembly (for high pressure side) to open the spill control valve, fuel pressure increases 3 MPa (30.6 kgf/cm2, 435 psi) from target pressure for about 10 seconds (1 trip detection logic).

  • Fuel pump with seal sub-assembly (for high pressure side)

  • Fuel delivery pipe LH (fuel pressure sensor)

  • ECM

Comes on DTC stored

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

If the fuel pressure increases despite a decrease request signal being sent to the fuel pump with seal sub-assembly (for high pressure side) by the ECM, the ECM will illuminate the MIL and store this DTC.

MONITOR STRATEGY

CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN

  1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

  2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

  3. Turn the GTS on.

  4. Record the Freeze Frame Data.

  5. Clear the DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC procedure).

  6. Turn the engine switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.

  7. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

  8. Turn the GTS on.

  9. Start the engine.

  10. Based on engine speed, engine load and other freeze frame data stored in the ECM, reproduce the conditions present when the DTC was stored.

  11. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.

  12. Read the pending DTCs.

    Tech Tips

    • If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.

    • If a pending DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.

  13. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Utility / All Readiness.

  14. Input the DTC: P0088.

  15. Check the DTC judgment result.

    GTS Display Description
    NORMAL
    • DTC judgment completed

    • System normal

    ABNORMAL
    • DTC judgment completed

    • System abnormal

    INCOMPLETE
    • DTC judgment not completed

    • Perform driving pattern after confirming DTC enabling conditions

    N/A
    • Unable to perform DTC judgment

    • Number of DTCs which do not fulfill DTC preconditions has reached ECU memory limit

    Tech Tips

    • If the judgment result shows NORMAL, the system is normal.

    • If the judgment result shows ABNORMAL, the system has a malfunction.

    • If the judgment result shows INCOMPLETE or N/A, perform the Confirmation Driving Pattern and check the DTC judgment result again.

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

Tech Tips

  • Bank 1 refers to the bank that includes the No. 1 cylinder*.

*: The No. 1 cylinder is the cylinder which is farthest from the transmission.

  • Bank 2 refers to the bank that does not include the No. 1 cylinder.

  • Read freeze frame data using the GTS. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0088)

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.

Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes
    5. Read the DTCs.

DTC P0088 and other DTCs are output B

      Tech Tips

If any DTCs other than P0088 are output, troubleshoot those DTCs first.

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING GTS (CONTROL THE TARGET FUEL PRESSURE)

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Start the engine.

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Control the Target Fuel Pressure / Ptrl General / Fuel Press.

Powertrain > Engine > Active Test
      Active Test Display
      Control the Target Fuel Pressure
      Data List Display
      Fuel Press
    5. Check that the fuel pressure fluctuates when the target fuel pressure changes.

      Tech Tips

The Active Test operation lowers the target fuel pressure by 12.5% or increase the target fuel pressure by 24.8%.
