PROCEDURE
REMOVE REAR SUSPENSION MEMBER BRACE LH
DRAIN TORQUE TRANSFER MODULE FLUID
for LH Side:
Stop the vehicle on a level surface.
Using a 10 mm hexagon socket wrench, remove the rear differential filler plug (torque transfer module side) and gasket.
Using a 10 mm hexagon socket wrench, remove the rear differential drain plug (torque transfer module side) and gasket to drain the fluid.
Using a 10 mm hexagon socket wrench, install a new gasket and the rear differential drain plug (torque transfer module side).
for RH Side:
Stop the vehicle on a level surface.
Using a 10 mm hexagon socket wrench, remove the rear differential filler plug (torque transfer module side) and gasket.
Using a 10 mm hexagon socket wrench, remove the rear differential drain plug (torque transfer module side) and gasket to drain the fluid.
Using a 10 mm hexagon socket wrench, install a new gasket and the rear differential drain plug (torque transfer module side).
DRAIN DIFFERENTIAL OIL
Stop the vehicle on a level surface.
Using a 10 mm hexagon socket wrench, remove the rear differential filler plug (differential side) and gasket.
Using a 10 mm hexagon socket wrench, remove the rear differential drain plug (differential side) and gasket to drain the oil.
Using a 10 mm hexagon socket wrench, install a new gasket and the rear differential drain plug (differential side).
ADD TORQUE TRANSFER MODULE FLUID
| *a | 0 to 9 mm (0 to 0.354 in.) |
Add torque transfer module fluid so that the fluid level is between 0 to 9 mm (0 to 0.354 in.) from the bottom lip of the rear differential filler plug opening (torque transfer module side).
Note
Too much or too little fluid will lead to torque transfer module problems.
After changing the fluid, drive the vehicle and then check the fluid level again.
Oil Type
---
Toyota genuine ATF WS or equivalent
Standard Torque Transfer Module Fluid Capacity
---
0.65 to 0.75 liters (0.7 to 0.8 US qts, 0.6 to 0.7 Imp. qts)
Using a 10 mm hexagon socket wrench, install a new gasket and the rear differential filler plug (torque transfer module side).
ADD DIFFERENTIAL OIL
| *a | 0 to 5 mm (0 to 0.196 in.) |
Add differential oil so that the oil level is between 0 to 5 mm (0 to 0.196 in.) from the bottom lip of the rear differential filler plug opening (differential side).
Note
Too much or too little oil will lead to differential problems.
After changing the oil, drive the vehicle and then check the oil level again.
Oil Type
---
Toyota genuine differential gear oil LT 75W-85 GL-5 or equivalent
Standard Differential Oil Capacity
---
1.30 to 1.40 liters (1.4 to 1.5 US qts, 1.1 to 1.2 Imp. qts)
Using a 10 mm hexagon socket wrench, install a new gasket and the rear differential filler plug (differential side).
INSPECT FOR TORQUE TRANSFER MODULE FLUID AND DIFFERENTIAL OIL LEAK
Check that there are no torque transfer module fluid or differential oil leaks at the points shown in the illustration.
