TROUBLESHOOTING PRECAUTIONS
When there is a malfunction with terminal contact points or part installation problems, removal and installation of the suspected parts may return the system to normal either completely or temporarily.
In order to determine the malfunctioning area, be sure to check the conditions at the time the malfunction occurred, such as DTC output and Freeze Frame Data, and record it before disconnecting any connector or removing and installing parts.
Since the system may be influenced by malfunctions in systems other than the torque vectoring differential system, be sure to check for DTCs in other systems.
CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM PRECAUTIONS
The CAN communication system is used for communication between the skid control ECU, steering angle sensor, yaw rate and acceleration sensor and other ECUs. If there is a malfunction in a CAN communication line, corresponding DTCs in the communication line are output.
If any CAN communication DTCs are output, repair the malfunction, then troubleshoot the torque vectoring differential system while communication is normal.
In order to enable CAN communication, a specific type of wiring is used for the CAN communication lines. The wiring used for each communication line is a twisted pair of wires that have an equal length.
A bypass wire should not be used because the data being transmitted will be corrupted.
CHASSIS DYNAMOMETER PRECAUTION
Enter check mode or remove the TVD fuse to disable TVD control when using a chassis dynamometer.
CAUTION:
Even in check mode, do not use a chassis dynamometer without securing the vehicle with lock chains.
If the vehicle is not secured with lock chains, even in check mode, the vehicle could suddenly move off of the chassis dynamometer.
Do not use a chassis dynamometer when there is a possibility that TDV could activate.
TDV operation could cause the vehicle to suddenly move off of the chassis dynamometer.
Tech Tips
TVD control will be disabled by entering check mode.
Activating Check Mode
Note
Check mode will be canceled when the engine switch is turned off. Make sure to enter check mode again if the inspection is continued after the engine switch is turned off.
Do not drive the vehicle with check mode selected.
Turn the engine switch off.
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the engine switch on (IG).
Enter the following menus: Chassis / TVD / Utility / Check Mode.
Tester Display
---
Check Mode
Cancel Check Mode
Turn the engine switch off to cancel check mode.
REPLACEMENT PRECAUTION
If the torque vectoring differential ECU assembly or torque vectoring differential FDU (Final Drive Unit) has been replaced, perform "Learning Value Initialization".
If the torque transfer module motor sub-assembly has been replaced or removed and installed, perform "Learning Value Initialization".
