| DTC Code | DTC Name |
|---|---|
| P268111 | Engine Coolant Bypass Valve Circuit Short to Ground |
| P268115 | Engine Coolant Bypass Valve Circuit Short to Battery or Open |
DESCRIPTION
Using the flow shutting valve (water valve), the dual-passage cooling system is divided between the engine and exhaust heat recirculator. Through this, the coolant-flow through the engine is reduced when operating the heater before the engine has warmed up.
By reducing the coolant flow, the engine can be warmed up in a shorter amount of time and the thermal efficiency of the engine will be enhanced. By reducing the warm up time, the fuel economy will be enhanced enabling the hybrid system to stop the engine sooner. The No. 2 engine coolant temperature sensor is installed between the exhaust heat recirculator and inlet side of the heater core. By comparing the signals of the No. 2 engine coolant temperature sensor and engine coolant temperature sensor, malfunctions of the flow shutting valve (water valve) can be detected.
| DTC No. | Detection Item | DTC Detection Condition | Trouble Area | MIL | Memory | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| P268111 | Engine Coolant Bypass Valve Circuit Short to Ground | Current operating state and target operating state differ for 3 seconds or more continuously (1 trip detection logic). |
|
Does not come on | DTC stored | SAE Code: P2682 |
| P268115 | Engine Coolant Bypass Valve Circuit Short to Battery or Open | Current operating state and target operating state differ for 3 seconds or more continuously (1 trip detection logic). |
|
Does not come on | DTC stored | SAE Code: P2683 |
MONITOR DESCRIPTION
These DTCs are stored when an open or short is detected in the flow shutting valve (water valve) circuit. If the current operating state and target operating state of the flow shutting valve (water valve) do not match, the ECM will determine that there is a malfunction in the flow shutting valve (water valve) circuit and store a DTC.
CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN
Tech Tips
Make sure to perform this procedure when the engine coolant temperature is between 5 and 40°C (41 and 104°F) and the difference between the engine coolant temperature and ambient temperature is within 10°C (18°F) or less.
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the power switch on (IG).
Turn the GTS on.
Clear the DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC procedure).
Turn the power switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
Turn the power switch on (IG).
Turn the GTS on.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Activate the Coolant Water Route Switching Valve.
Perform the Active Test Activate the Coolant Water Route Switching Valve, select "Close" and wait for 3 seconds or more.
Perform the Active Test Activate the Coolant Water Route Switching Valve, select "Open" and wait for 3 seconds or more.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.
Read the pending DTCs.
Tech Tips
If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.
If a pending DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Utility / All Readiness.
Input the DTC: P268111 or P268115.
Check the DTC judgment result.
| GTS Display | Description |
|---|---|
| NORMAL |
|
| ABNORMAL |
|
| INCOMPLETE |
|
| N/A |
|
Tech Tips
If the judgment result is NORMAL, the system is normal.
If the judgment result is ABNORMAL, the system is malfunctioning.
If the judgment result is INCOMPLETE or N/A, perform the Confirmation Driving Pattern and check the DTC judgment result again.

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT
Note
Inspect the fuses for circuits related to this system before performing the following procedure.
Tech Tips
If DTCs P268111 and P268173 are output simultaneously, a short is suspected.
If DTCs P268111 and P268172 are output simultaneously, an open is suspected.
If DTCs P268115 and P268173 are output simultaneously, a short is suspected.
Read freeze frame data using the GTS. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
