AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY REMOVAL

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

CAUTION:

The engine assembly with automatic transaxle assembly is very heavy. Be sure to follow the procedure described in the repair manual, or the engine lifter may suddenly drop.

PROCEDURE


  1. REMOVE FLYWHEEL HOUSING UNDER COVER

  2. REMOVE DRIVE PLATE AND TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY SETTING BOLT


    1. A01W1NX

      Turn the crankshaft to gain access to the 6 drive plate and torque converter assembly setting bolts and remove each drive plate and torque converter assembly setting bolt while holding the crankshaft pulley bolt with a wrench.

      Tech Tips

      There will be one black colored drive plate and torque converter assembly setting bolt.

  3. REMOVE ENGINE ASSEMBLY WITH TRANSAXLE

  4. INSTALL ENGINE HANGERS

  5. REMOVE FRONT FRAME ASSEMBLY

    Click here

  6. REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY

    Click here

  7. REMOVE WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR


    1. Disengage the wire harness clamp.

      Disengage the claw, push up the lever and disconnect the connector of the wiring harness connector.

      Remove the 2 bolts and wiring harness connector from the transaxle case sub-assembly.

  8. REMOVE WIRE HARNESS CLAMP BRACKET

      Disconnect the transmission breather hose sub-assembly from the clamp.

      Remove the clamp from the wire harness clamp bracket.

    3. A01W1VH

      Disconnect the oxygen sensor connector.

    4. Disengage the 4 clamps to disconnect the wire harness from the wire harness clamp bracket.

    5. A01W1XU

      Remove the bolt and wire harness clamp bracket from the transaxle housing.

  9. DISCONNECT ENGINE WIRE


    1. A01W4HL

      Remove the bolt.

    2. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch assembly connector.

    3. A01W5N7

      Remove the nut.

    4. Disengage the 4 clamps.

    5. Disconnect the oil pump with motor assembly connector.

  10. REMOVE TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER

      Slide the 2 clips and remove the No. 4 water bypass hose from the No. 1 water by-pass pipe and transmission oil cooler.

      Slide the 2 clips and remove the inlet oil cooler hose from the oil cooler inlet elbow and transmission oil cooler.

    3. Slide the 2 clips and remove the outlet oil cooler hose from the oil cooler union sub-assembly and transmission oil cooler.

      Remove the 3 bolts and transmission oil cooler from the front engine mounting bracket.

  11. REMOVE FRONT ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET

      Remove the 3 bolts and front engine mounting bracket from the transaxle housing.

  12. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY


    1. Support the automatic transaxle assembly with a transmission jack.

      Note


      • In order to protect the automatic transaxle oil pan sub-assembly, place attachments on the transmission jack.

      • Make sure that the attachments and automatic transaxle oil pan sub-assembly are centered on the transmission jack.

      • To prevent the automatic transaxle oil pan sub-assembly from being deformed, do not place any attachments under the automatic transaxle oil pan sub-assembly.

      • Hold the engine assembly with a suitable adapter, such as a rope, during the operation.

      Remove the 9 bolts and automatic transaxle assembly from the engine assembly.

      Note


      • Secure the automatic transaxle assembly to the transmission jack using a belt, etc. to prevent it from falling.

      • To prevent damage to the knock pins, do not pry between the automatic transaxle assembly and engine assembly.

  13. REMOVE NO. 1 TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE BRACKET

      Remove the 2 bolts and No. 1 transmission control cable bracket from the transaxle case sub-assembly.

  14. REMOVE WIRE HARNESS CLAMP BRACKET

      Remove the bolt and wire harness clamp bracket from the rear transaxle cover sub-assembly.

    2. A01W4A2

      Remove the 3 bolts and 3 wire harness clamp brackets from the transaxle case sub-assembly.

  15. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CASE PLUG ASSEMBLY


    1. A01W1GE

      Remove the transmission case plug assembly from the transaxle housing.

    2. Remove the O-ring from the transmission case plug assembly.

  16. REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY


    1. A01W235

      Remove the torque converter assembly from the automatic transaxle assembly.

      Note

      Remove the torque converter assembly from the input shaft horizontally.
