SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
The Electronic Controlled Automatic Transaxle (ECT) is an automatic transaxle that has its shift timing electronically controlled by the ECM. The ECM detects electrical signals that indicate engine and driving conditions, and controls the shift point based on driver's habits and road conditions. As a result, fuel efficiency and transaxle performance are improved.
Shift shock has been reduced by controlling the engine and transaxle simultaneously.
In addition, the ECT has features such as:
Diagnostic function.
Fail-safe function for use when a malfunction occurs.
OIL PUMP WITH MOTOR ASSEMBLY OPERATION CONTROL
When the engine is stopped automatically by the stop and start system, the engine stop and start ECU assembly operates the oil pump with motor assembly installed to the automatic transaxle to produce optimal ATF pressure for enhanced response of the automatic transaxle assembly and smooth start-off when the engine is automatically restarted.
Tech Tips
Refer to the stop and start system operation conditions Click here.
The oil pump with motor assembly operates when the ATF temperature is between 25 and 112°C (77 and 234°F).
When the shift lever is in P, R, N, D*1 or S, the engine will not be stopped by the stop and start system.
| Shift Lever Position | P | R | N | D*2 | D*1 or S |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brake Pedal Depressed | Does not operate | Does not operate | Does not operate | Operates | Does not operate |
| Brake Pedal Released | Does not operate | Does not operate | Does not operate | Operates → Does not operate*3 | Does not operate |
*1: SPORT Mode ON
*2: SPORT Mode OFF
*3: When the engine speed or vehicle speed reaches the threshold value, the oil pump with motor assembly will stop operating.
