STOP AND START SYSTEM, Diagnostic DTC:P1589

DTC Code DTC Name
P1589 G Sensor Zero Point Calibration Incomplete

DESCRIPTION

If the vehicle is driven before calibration of the deceleration sensor zero point is performed, the engine stop and start ECU stores this DTC.

DTC No. DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area
P1589

Both of the following conditions are met for 5 seconds or more (1 trip detection logic):

  • The vehicle speed is 3 km/h (2 mph) or more and VSC communication is normal.

  • Deceleration sensor zero point calibration is incomplete.

  • The deceleration sensor zero point calibration has not been performed

  • Airbag sensor assembly

  • Engine stop and start ECU

CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN

  1. CONFIRMATION AFTER TROUBLESHOOTING

    Tech Tips

    • If the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal, stop and start control is prohibited until refresh charge is completed. In this case, drive the vehicle approximately 5 to 60 minutes until refresh charge is completed and stop and start control operation is permitted.

    • Allow the engine to idle for 3 minutes after it is warmed up and check that the engine idle speed is within 50 rpm of the target idle speed.

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the engine switch on and turn the GTS on.

    3. Clear the DTCs Click here.

    4. Start the engine and warm it up.

    5. Drive the vehicle at 3 km/h (1.9 mph) or more for 5 seconds or more.

    6. Check that no DTCs are output Click here.

  2. STOP AND START SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK

    Tech Tips

If the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal, stop and start control is prohibited until refresh charge is completed. In this case, drive the vehicle approximately 5 to 60 minutes until refresh charge is completed and stop and start control operation is permitted.

    1. Start the engine and warm it up.

    2. Turn the air conditioning system off.

    3. Drive the vehicle at 7 km/h (4.3 mph) or more.

      CAUTION:

When performing Confirmation Driving Pattern, obey all speed limits and traffic laws.

    4. Depress the brake pedal and stop the vehicle.

    5. Allow the engine to stop by stop and start control. (Keep the shift lever in D.)

    6. Release the brake pedal with the shift lever in D to start the engine.

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

Note

  • Before replacing the engine stop and start ECU, read the number of starter operations and write it into a new engine stop and start ECU Click here.

  • After replacing the engine stop and start ECU or air conditioning amplifier assembly, reset and perform learning of the air conditioning information in the engine stop and start ECU Click here.

  • After replacing the engine stop and start ECU or airbag sensor assembly, clear and calibrate the deceleration sensor zero point in the engine stop and start ECU Click here.

Tech Tips

Using the GTS, read the freeze frame data before troubleshooting. System condition information is recorded as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. This information can be useful when troubleshooting Click here.

PROCEDURE

  1. PERFORM REGISTRATION (DECELERATION SENSOR ZERO POINT CLEAR, DECELERATION SENSOR ZERO POINT CALIBRATION)

    Note

    • Once the zero point is stored, it cannot be overwritten until the data is cleared. Be sure to perform zero point clear and calibration after replacing the airbag sensor assembly.

    • Park the vehicle on a level surface (grade: +/-1%). Do not shake the vehicle or open/ close any of the doors during zero point calibration. To avoid vibration caused by the engine idling, do not start the engine.

    1. Clear the zero point calibration data. (*1)

      1. Turn the engine switch off.

      2. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

      3. Move the shift lever to P and apply the parking brake.

      4. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

        Tech Tips

        Do not start the engine.

      5. Turn the GTS on.

      6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Stop and Start / Utility / Deceleration Sensor Zero Point Clear.

        Note

When the deceleration sensor zero point is cleared, the system information stored in the engine stop and start ECU is also cleared. If the vehicle is driven for 5 seconds or more at 3 km/h (2 mph) or more in this condition, the engine stop and start ECU will store DTC P1589 and blink the stop and start cancel indicator.

      7. Turn the engine switch off.

    2. Perform zero point calibration of the deceleration sensor.

      1. Check that the shift lever is in P.

      2. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

      3. Check that the parking brake is applied and the brake warning light is illuminated.

      4. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

        Tech Tips

        Do not start the engine.

      5. Turn the GTS on.

      6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Stop and Start / Utility / Deceleration Sensor Zero Point Calibration.

        Tech Tips

If DTC P1589 is stored, the stop and start cancel indicator will blink.

      7. While keeping the vehicle stationary, follow the prompts on the GTS screen. Check that "Complete" is displayed on the GTS screen.

        Note

If zero point calibration fails, perform the registration procedure again from (*1).
