DESCRIPTION

The oil pump is a variable discharge type. The oil pump maintains the oil pressure in the required for VVT operation at low engine speeds and for lubrication at high engine speeds, and reduces friction to lower the excess oil pressure at middle engine speeds. The oil pressure sender gauge assembly detects the engine oil pressure.

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

The ECM calculates the engine oil pressure from the oil pressure sender gauge assembly output voltage. does not match the target voltage based on engine speed or does not change for a certain period of time, the oil pressure sender gauge assembly may be malfunctioning or have an open or short in its circuit. In this case, the ECM illuminates the MIL and stores a DTC.

  1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

  2. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the GTS on.

  3. Clear the DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC procedure).

  4. Turn the engine switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.

  5. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the GTS on.

  6. Start the engine and warm it up until the engine coolant temperature is 75°C (167°F) or higher with all the accessories switches turned off [A].

  7. With the vehicle is stationary, gently depress the accelerator pedal and maintain an engine speed of 4000 rpm for 1 minute, then release the accelerator pedal and return to the engine idling [B].

  8. Repeat step [B] 3 times or more.

  9. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.

  10. Read the pending DTCs.

    Tech Tips


    • If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.

    • If a pending DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.

  11. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Utility / All Readiness.

  12. Input the DTC: P052012, P052014, P052024, P05202A or P052400.

  13. Check the DTC judgment result.

    • Perform driving pattern after confirming DTC enabling conditions

    Tech Tips


    • If the judgment result shows NORMAL, the system is normal.

    • If the judgment result shows ABNORMAL, the system has a malfunction.

    • If the judgment result shows INCOMPLETE or N/A, perform the Confirmation Driving Pattern and check the DTC judgment result again.

Tech Tips

Read freeze frame data using the GTS. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

  1. CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P052012, P052014, P052024, P05202A OR P052400


    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.

    5. Read the DTCs.

      Result

  2. CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL


    1. Check the engine oil level.

    2. Check the state of the oil level warning light.

  6. INSPECT OIL PRESSURE SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY


    1. Read the value displayed on the GTS.


      1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

      2. Start the engine.

      3. Turn the GTS on.

      4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / All Data / Engine Oil Temperature Sensor and Engine Oil Pressure.

      5. With the engine oil temperature at 75 to 85°C (167 to 185°F), read the "Engine Oil Pressure" with the engine speed at 1000 rpm.

    2. Read the oil pressure using an oil pressure gauge.


      1. Install the oil pressure gauge Click here.

      2. Start the engine.

      3. With the engine oil temperature at 75 to 85°C (167 to 185°F), read the oil pressure gauge with the engine speed at 1000 rpm.

    3. Compare the Data List value and the oil pressure gauge reading.

      Data List value and gauge reading are within +/-50 kPa of each other
