AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SYSTEM (for 1KD-FTV), Diagnostic DTC:P0985, P0986

DTC Code DTC Name
P0985 Shift Solenoid "E" Control Circuit Low (Shift Solenoid Valve SR)
P0986 Shift Solenoid "E" Control Circuit High (Shift Solenoid Valve SR)

DESCRIPTION

Shifting from 1st to 5th is performed in combination with the ON and OFF operation of the shift solenoid valves SL1, SL2, S1, S2 and SR, which is controlled by the TCM. If an open or short circuit occurs in the shift solenoid valves, the TCM controls the remaining normal shift solenoid valve to allow the vehicle to be operated safely Click here.

DTC Code DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area
P0985 TCM detects short in solenoid valve SR circuit 2 times when solenoid valve SR is operated (1 trip detection logic)
  • Short in shift solenoid valve SR circuit

  • Shift solenoid valve SR

  • TCM

P0986 TCM detects open in solenoid valve SR circuit 2 times when solenoid valve SR is not operated (1 trip detection logic)
  • Open in shift solenoid valve SR circuit

  • Shift solenoid valve SR

  • TCM

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

These DTCs indicate an open or short in the shift solenoid valve SR circuit. When there is an open or short circuit in any shift solenoid valve circuit, the TCM detects the problem and illuminates the MIL and stores the DTC. When the shift solenoid valve SR is ON, if resistance is 8 Ω or less, the TCM determines that there is a short in the shift solenoid valve SR circuit.

When the shift solenoid valve SR is OFF, if resistance is 100 kΩ or more, the TCM determines that there is an open in the shift solenoid valve SR circuit Click here.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

Tech Tips

The shift solenoid valve SR turns ON/OFF normally when the shift lever is on D:

PROCEDURE

  1. INSPECT TRANSMISSION WIRE (SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE SR)

    1. A01E0VEE50

Disconnect the E1 transmission wire connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      7 - Body ground 20°C (68°F) 11 to 15 Ω

    NG
    OK
  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TRANSMISSION WIRE - TCM)

    1. A01E2RLE29

      Disconnect the T19 TCM connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      T19-16 (SR) - Body ground 20°C (68°F) 11 to 15 Ω

    NG
    OK
  3. INSPECT SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE SR

    1. A01E2VGE08

Remove the shift solenoid valve SR.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
Shift solenoid valve SR connector terminal - Shift solenoid valve SR body 20°C (68°F) 11 to 15 Ω
    3. Apply 12 V battery voltage to the shift solenoid valve and check that the valve moves and makes an operating noise.

      OK
      Measurement Condition Specified Condition

      • Battery positive (+) → Shift solenoid valve SR connector

      • Battery negative (-) → Shift solenoid valve SR body

Valve moves and makes an operating noise

    NG
    OK
