MULTI-MODE MANUAL TRANSAXLE SYSTEM GENERAL GENERAL
OUTLINE
A C553A 5-speed Multi-mode Manual Transaxle (M-MT) is used.
The M-MT is a manual transaxle with a clutch actuator assembly and shift and select actuator assembly. The operation of the clutch actuator assembly and shift and select actuator assembly is controlled by the TCM.
The M-MT uses a shift-by-wire system in which the TCM changes gears using actuators in accordance with the shift lever position that has been detected through the shift lever position sensor and the transmission shift main switch in the shift lock control unit assembly.
The M-MT has 2 modes (E-mode and M-mode), realizing good fuel efficiency, ease of driving (in E-mode) and sporty driving (in M-mode).
The E-mode shifts gears automatically to suit the driving conditions.
The M-mode allows the driver to manually operate the shift lever and shift paddle switch (transmission shift switch assembly) to shift gears without the need for a clutch pedal.
A Gear Shift Indicator system is used.
