FUNCTION
The piston jet control system electronically controls the oil passage that supplies oil to the piston jet to achieve pre-ignition control at low engine speeds for special engines with small-type turbocharger.
The ECM turns the oil pressure switching valve assembly on and off based on the ON-OFF map in accordance with the engine coolant temperature and engine load to control the oil supplied to the piston jet.
At low engine coolant temperatures, fuel dilution reduction at low temperatures and improved piston temperature increase during engine start enhance fuel economy to stop oil injection from the piston jet.
Oil injection from the piston jets is stopped in order to prevent generation of deposits* during high engine coolant temperatures and to enhance reliability.
Tech Tips
*: Deposit: Engine oil or its uncombusted materials gradually accumulate. This accumulation is the deposit.
