PROCEDURE
CHECK FUEL PUMP OPERATION AND INSPECT FOR FUEL LEAK
Check fuel pump operation.
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the engine switch on (IG).
Note
Do not start the engine.
Turn the GTS on.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Activate the Circuit Relay.
for Rear Air Fuel Ratio Sensor:
| Tester Display |
|---|
| Activate the Circuit Relay |
for Rear Heated Oxygen Sensor:
| Tester Display |
|---|
| Activate the Circuit Relay |
Check for pressure in the fuel tube sub-assembly from the fuel line. Check that sounds of fuel flowing from the fuel tank assembly can be heard. If no sounds can be heard, check the relay, fuel pump, ECM and wiring connectors.
Inspect for fuel leaks.
Check that there are no fuel leaks from the fuel system after doing any maintenance or repairs. If there is a fuel leak, repair or replace parts as necessary.
Turn the engine switch off.
Disconnect the GTS from the DLC3.
CHECK FUEL PRESSURE
Discharge fuel system pressure.
Measure the battery voltage.
| Standard Voltage |
|---|
| 11 to 14 V |
Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
Note
When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected.
Remove the No. 1 engine cover sub-assembly.
Disconnect the No. 2 fuel tube sub-assembly (for Direct Injection).
Disconnect the No. 2 fuel tube sub-assembly from the fuel pump assembly.
Disconnect the fuel tube sub-assembly (for Port Injection).
Disconnect the fuel tube sub-assembly from the fuel delivery pipe.
| *1 | Fuel Tube Sub-assembly (Vehicle Side) |
| *a | SST (Hose Band) |
| *b | SST (T-joint) |
| *c | SST (Gauge) |
| *d | SST (Hose Joint) |
| *e | SST (Hose) |
| *f | SST (Fuel Tube Connector) |
| *g | Fuel Pipe (Vehicle Side) |
Install SST (EFI fuel pressure gauge) as shown in the illustration.
Wipe up any spilled fuel.
Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
Note
When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected.
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the engine switch on (IG).
Note
Do not start the engine.
Turn the GTS on.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Activate the Circuit Relay.
for Rear Air Fuel Ratio Sensor:
| Tester Display |
|---|
| Activate the Circuit Relay |
for Rear Heated Oxygen Sensor:
| Tester Display |
|---|
| Activate the Circuit Relay |
Measure the fuel pressure.
| Standard Fuel Pressure |
|---|
| 196 to 833 kPa (2.0 to 8.5 kgf/cm2, 28 to 121 psi) |
for Rear Air Fuel Ratio Sensor:
If the fuel pressure is more than the standard, replace the fuel main valve assembly.
If the fuel pressure is less than the standard, check the fuel hoses and their connections, fuel pump, fuel filter and fuel main valve assembly.
for Rear Heated Oxygen Sensor:
If the fuel pressure is more than the standard, replace the pressure discharge valve assembly.
If the fuel pressure is less than the standard, check the fuel hoses and their connections, fuel pump, fuel filter and pressure discharge valve assembly.
Disconnect the GTS from the DLC3.
Start the engine.
Measure the fuel pressure at idle.
| Standard Fuel Pressure |
|---|
| 196 to 833 kPa (2.0 to 8.5 kgf/cm2, 28 to 121 psi) |
Stop the engine.
Check that the fuel pressure remains as specified for 5 minutes.
| Standard Fuel Pressure |
|---|
| 98 kPa (1.0 kgf/cm2, 14.2 psi) or more |
for Rear Air Fuel Ratio Sensor:
If the result is not as specified, check the fuel pump, fuel main valve assembly and/or port fuel injector assemblies.
for Rear Heated Oxygen Sensor:
If the result is not as specified, check the fuel pump, pressure discharge valve assembly and/or port fuel injector assemblies.
After checking the fuel pressure, disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal and carefully remove SST to prevent fuel from spraying.
Note
When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected.
Connect the fuel tube sub-assembly (for Port Injection).
Connect the fuel tube sub-assembly to the fuel delivery pipe.
Connect the No. 2 fuel tube sub-assembly (for Direct Injection).
Connect the No. 2 fuel tube sub-assembly to the fuel pump assembly.
Install the No. 1 engine cover sub-assembly.
Inspect for fuel leaks.
CHECK FUEL PRESSURE (for High Pressure)
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the engine switch on (IG).
Turn the GTS on.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / Engine Speed, Coolant Temperature, Fuel Pressure (High) and Injection Mode.
| Tester Display |
|---|
| Engine Speed |
| Coolant Temperature |
| Fuel Pressure (High) |
Start the engine and warm it up until the engine coolant temperature is 75°C (167°F) or higher with all the accessories switched off.
Read Fuel Pressure (High) with the engine speed at 3000 rpm.
| Standard | ||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
|
If the result is not as specified, check the fuel pump, fuel pump assembly, fuel pressure sensor and wire harnesses.
Stop the engine.
ACTIVE TEST (Control the Select Cylinder Fuel Cut)
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Start the engine.
Turn the GTS on.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Control the Select Cylinder Fuel Cut. Select a cylinder from #1 to #4.
| Tester Display |
|---|
| Control the Select Cylinder Fuel Cut |
Tech Tips
Perform the Active Test with the vehicle stopped and the engine idling.
After stopping injection of the cylinder for which the Active Test was performed, check the idling state.
| OK |
|---|
| The idling speed changes. |
Tech Tips
Perform the Active Test for each cylinder. It is not possible to test multiple cylinders at once.
