CYLINDER HEAD DISASSEMBLY

Tech Tips


  • Thoroughly clean all parts to be assembled.

  • Before installing the parts, apply fresh engine oil to all sliding and rotating surfaces.

  • Replace all gaskets and oil seals with new ones.


  1. REMOVE VALVE LIFTER


    1. Remove the 16 valve lifters.

      Tech Tips

      Arrange the 16 valve lifters in the correct order.

  2. REMOVE INTAKE VALVE

    1. Using SST, compress the compression spring and remove the 2 valve spring retainer locks.

    2. Remove the spring retainer, compression spring, valve and spring seat.

      Tech Tips

      Arrange the valves, compression springs, spring seats and spring retainers in the correct order.

  3. REMOVE EXHAUST VALVE

    1. Using SST, compress the compression spring and remove the 2 valve spring retainer locks.

    2. Remove the spring retainer, compression spring, valve and spring seat.

      Tech Tips

      Arrange the valves, compression springs, spring seats and spring retainers in the correct order.

  4. REMOVE VALVE STEM OIL O SEAL OR RING

    1. Using needle-nose pliers, remove the 16 oil seals.

  5. REMOVE SEMICIRCULAR PLUG

  6. REMOVE NO. 1 WITH HEAD STRAIGHT SCREW PLUG


    1. B007RM7

      Using a 6 mm hexagon wrench, remove the 4 straight screw plugs.

  7. REMOVE RING PIN


    1. B007UJ5

      Remove the 4 ring pins from the cylinder head.

  8. REMOVE STUD BOLT


    1. Remove the 15 stud bolts from the cylinder head.
