COOLING SYSTEM ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK FOR ENGINE COOLANT LEAK

   1. Start the engine.

   2. Maintain the engine speed at 1,500 rpm until the first cooling cycle (cooling fan on).

   3. Stop the engine and wait for cool down.

   4. If necessary top up the level to the maximum line.

2. INSPECT ENGINE COOLANT LEVEL IN RESERVE TANK

   1. 

      *a	Maximum Line
      *b	Minimum Line

      Check that the engine coolant level is between the minimum line and maximum line when the engine is cold.

      If the engine coolant level is minimum, check for leaks and add engine coolant to the maximum line.

      Note:

      Do not substitute plain water for engine coolant.

3. INSPECT ENGINE COOLANT QUALITY

   CAUTION:

   Do not remove the reserve tank cap sub-assembly while the engine and radiator assembly are still hot. Pressurized, hot engine coolant and steam may be released and cause serious burns.

   1. Remove the reserve tank cap sub-assembly.

   2. Check if there are any excessive deposits of rust or scale around the reserve tank cap sub-assembly and water filler hole. Also, the engine coolant should be free of oil.

      If excessively dirty, replace the engine coolant.

   3. Install the reserve tank cap sub-assembly.
