    The engine assembly with transaxle is very heavy. Be sure to follow the procedure described in the repair manual, or the engine lifter may suddenly drop or the engine assembly with transaxle may fall off the engine lifter.

    To prevent burns, do not touch the engine, exhaust manifold or other high temperature components while the engine is hot.

    Note

    After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal notices before proceeding with work.

    1. Remove the 2 screws, clip and front fender apron seal LH.

  12. REMOVE FRONT FENDER APRON SEAL RH


    1. Remove the 2 screws, clip and front fender apron seal RH.

  13. REMOVE FRONT BUMPER COVER

    2. Disengage the 2 claws to remove the front lower bumper absorber.

  17. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

      Lift the rear of the No. 1 engine cover sub-assembly to disengage the 2 clips, and then lift the front of the No. 1 engine cover sub-assembly to disengage the clip and remove the No. 1 engine cover sub-assembly.

      Note

      Attempting to disengage both front and rear clips at the same time may cause the No. 1 engine cover sub-assembly to break.

  18. REMOVE INLET AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY

      Remove the 2 bolts and inlet air cleaner assembly.

  19. REMOVE AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY WITH AIR CLEANER HOSE

      Disconnect the mass air flow meter sub-assembly connector.

    2. Disengage the 3 wire harness clamps.

      Slide the clip and disconnect the ventilation hose from the cylinder head cover sub-assembly.

    4. Disengage the 2 clamps.

    5. Loosen the hose clamp and disconnect the air cleaner assembly with air cleaner hose from the throttle body with motor assembly.

      Note

      Make sure the air cleaner support remains attached to the vehicle body.

    6. Disengage the 3 pins to remove the air cleaner assembly with air cleaner hose.

  20. REMOVE ECM

  21. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS

      Remove the nut and disconnect the wire harness from the positive (+) battery terminal.

  22. REMOVE BATTERY

  23. REMOVE BATTERY CLAMP SUB-ASSEMBLY

      Disengage the 5 clamps from the battery clamp sub-assembly.

    2. Remove the 3 bolts and battery clamp sub-assembly.

  24. DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY

      Remove the nut and disconnect the transmission control cable assembly from the transmission control shaft lever.

    2. B0088K2

      Remove the clip and disconnect the transmission control cable assembly from the No. 1 transmission control cable bracket.

  25. DISCONNECT FUEL TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY

  26. DISCONNECT NO. 1 FUEL VAPOR FEED HOSE

      Slide the clip and disconnect the No. 1 fuel vapor feed hose from the No. 1 vacuum switching valve assembly.

  27. DISCONNECT UNION TO CONNECTOR TUBE HOSE (for LHD)

      Slide the clip and disconnect the union to connector tube hose.

  28. DISCONNECT UNION TO CHECK VALVE HOSE (for RHD)

      Slide the clip and disconnect the union to check valve hose.

  29. DISCONNECT NO. 1 RADIATOR HOSE

      Slide the clip and disconnect the No. 1 radiator hose from the water outlet.

  30. DISCONNECT NO. 2 RADIATOR HOSE

      Slide the clip and disconnect the No. 2 radiator hose from the water inlet.

  31. DISCONNECT NO. 1 COOLER REFRIGERANT DISCHARGE HOSE SUB-ASSEMBLY

      Slide the 4 clips and disconnect the 4 water hoses.

    2. Disengage the 4 clamps.

  34. DISCONNECT OIL COOLER HOSE (w/ Air Cooled Oil Cooler)

      Slide the 3 clips and disconnect the 3 oil cooler hoses.

      Slide the clip and disconnect the oil cooler hose.

  35. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS

    Tech Tips

    After disconnecting the wire harness, secure it with tape or equivalent to keep it out of the way.

    4. Disconnect the 4 connectors.

    5. Using a screwdriver, disengage the claw and separate the wire harness from the engine room relay block and junction block assembly.

  41. REMOVE ENGINE ASSEMBLY WITH TRANSAXLE


    1. Set the engine assembly with transaxle on an engine lifter.

      Note


      • Using height adjustment attachments and plate lift attachments, keep the engine assembly with transaxle level.

      • Do not position the height adjustment attachments or plate lift attachments under the front cross member sub-assembly.

      • Do not perform any procedures while the engine assembly is suspended because doing so may cause the engine assembly to drop, resulting in injury. However, the engine assembly needs to be suspended when it is installed to or removed from an engine stand.

      • To prevent the engine assembly from unexpectedly moving, securely support the engine assembly until it is secured to an engine stand.

      • To prevent the No. 2 oil pan sub-assembly from deforming, do not place any attachments under the No. 2 oil pan sub-assembly of the engine assembly with transaxle.

      Disengage the clamp.

      Remove the 2 bolts, nut and separate the engine mounting insulator sub-assembly RH from the engine mounting bracket RH.

      Remove the bolt, nut and separate the engine mounting insulator LH from the engine mounting bracket sub-assembly LH.

      Remove the 8 bolts and front bumper extension sub-assembly RH and front bumper extension sub-assembly LH from the front frame assembly and vehicle body.

    6. Remove the 4 bolts, 2 nuts, front suspension member bracket sub-assembly RH and front suspension member bracket sub-assembly LH from the front frame assembly and vehicle body.

    7. Operate the engine lifter and remove the engine assembly with transaxle from the vehicle.

      Note


      • Make sure that the engine assembly with transaxle is clear of all wiring and hoses.

      • While lowering the engine assembly with transaxle from the vehicle, do not allow it to contact the vehicle.

  42. INSTALL ENGINE HANGERS

      Install the No. 1 engine hanger and No. 2 engine hanger with the 2 bolts as shown in the illustration.

      Torque:
      43 N*m  { 438 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf }

    2. Using an engine sling device and engine lift, secure the engine assembly with transaxle.

      Note


      • Pay attention to the angle of the sling device as the engine assembly or No. 1 engine hanger and No. 2 engine hanger may be damaged or deformed if the angle is incorrect.

      • Do not perform any procedures while the engine assembly is suspended because doing so may cause the engine assembly to drop, resulting in injury. However, the engine assembly needs to be suspended when it is installed to or removed from an engine stand.

    1. Remove the 2 bolts, No. 1 engine hanger and No. 2 engine hanger.

  58. REMOVE ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR SUB-ASSEMBLY RH

    Perform this procedure only when replacement of the engine mounting insulator sub-assembly RH is necessary.

    2. Disengage the clamp.

    3. Remove the bolt, nut and the radiator reserve tank assembly.

      Remove the bolt and disconnect the bracket from the engine mounting insulator sub-assembly RH.

      Remove the bolt and disconnect the No. 1 bond cable from the engine mounting insulator sub-assembly RH.
