ECD SYSTEM, Diagnostic DTC:P0016

DTC Code DTC Name
P0016 Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation Bank 1 Sensor A

DESCRIPTION

The ECM uses 2 sensors to detect the engine speed and the position of the crankshaft and camshaft. The crankshaft position sensor detects the engine speed and top dead center position of the crankshaft. The camshaft position sensor determines when the cylinder is at the top dead center of the compression or exhaust stroke.

The exhaust gas value worsens due to an angular error between the crankshaft and camshaft. The ECM stores DTC P0016 if the angular error between the crankshaft and camshaft exceeds the threshold.

DTC No.

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

Note:

When replacing the ECM, the ECM needs registration and initialization.

Tip:
  • When the ECM must be replaced, before replacing the ECM, perform the "Learning Values Save" function using the GTS. Then after installing the new ECM, perform all of the initialization/registrations for the "Learning Values Write" function by following the instructions shown on the GTS display.

  • Read freeze frame data using the GTS. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE

  1. INSPECT CAMSHAFT AND CAMSHAFT TIMING SPROCKET INSTALLATION CONDITION

    1. A318369

Remove the cylinder head cover sub-assembly so that the camshaft timing sprocket is visible.

    2. Check the camshaft and camshaft timing sprocket installation condition.

      OK

Camshaft and camshaft timing sprocket securely installed without looseness.

      Tip:

The holes for the bolts which connect the camshaft timing sprocket to the camshaft are long. If there is looseness, the parts can slide and become misaligned.
