AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE SYSTEM INITIALIZATION

  1. RESET TRANSAXLE COMPENSATION CODE

    Note:

    • If the following parts have been replaced, initialize the TCM and perform the following Reset Memory and Perform Road Test to Allow TCM to Learn steps.

      - Valve body assembly

      - Shift solenoid valve SL3

      - Shift solenoid valve SL4

      - TCM

    • The transaxle compensation code can only be initialized with the GTS.

    Tip:

    The TCM memorizes the vehicle conditions when the ECT controls the automatic transaxle assembly. Therefore, when the automatic transaxle assembly or TCM has been replaced, it is necessary to reset the memory so that the TCM can memorize the new information. The reset procedure is as follows:

    1. Move the shift lever to N or P.

    2. Turn the ignition switch off.

    3. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    5. Turn the GTS on.

    6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / ECT / Utility / A/T Code Reset.

      Powertrain > ECT > Utility

      Tester Display

      A/T Code Reset

    7. Press "Next" to proceed.

      Note:

      After the transaxle compensation code is initialized, perform the following Reset Memory and Perform Road Test to Allow TCM to Learn steps.

    8. Press "Exit".

  2. RESET MEMORY

    Note:

    Reset Memory can only be performed with the GTS.

    Tip:

    The TCM memorizes the vehicle conditions when the ECT controls the automatic transaxle assembly.

    Therefore, when the automatic transaxle assembly, valve body assembly, shift solenoid valve SL3, shift solenoid valve SL4, or TCM has been replaced, it is necessary to reset the memory so that the TCM can memorize the new information.

    1. The reset procedure is as follows.

      1. Turn the ignition switch off.

      2. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

      3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

      4. Turn the GTS on.

      5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / ECT / Utility / Reset Memory. Then press "Next".

        Powertrain > ECT > Utility

        Note:

        After performing Reset Memory, be sure to perform Perform Road Test to Allow TCM to Learn described below.

  3. PERFORM ROAD TEST TO ALLOW TCM TO LEARN

    Note:

    Perform the following procedure while strictly observing all traffic laws and speed limits.

    1. Warm up the engine.

    2. Turn the ignition switch off.

    3. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    5. Turn the GTS on.

    6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / ECT / Data List / Accel Position from EFI.

      Powertrain > ECT > Data List

      Tester Display

      Accel Position from EFI

    7. With the shift lever in P and the vehicle at a standstill, confirm the accelerator pedal depression amount when the "Accel Position from EFI" value in the Data List becomes 15%.

    8. From a standstill, accelerate the vehicle to the highest possible speed with the "Accel Position from EFI" value at 15% or less while keeping the accelerator pedal position fixed.

    9. If shift shock is large, repeat the previous step until shift shock no longer occurs.

    10. With the vehicle at a standstill, confirm the accelerator pedal depression amount when the "Accel Position from EFI" value in the Data List becomes 25 to 35%.

    11. From a standstill, accelerate the vehicle to the highest possible speed with the "Accel Position from EFI" value at 25 to 35% while keeping the accelerator pedal position fixed.

    12. If shift shock is large, repeat the previous step until shift shock no longer occurs.
