WINDSHIELD GLASS REMOVAL

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

Note:

When replacing the windshield glass of a vehicle equipped with a pre-crash safety city sensor, make sure to use a Toyota genuine part. If a non-Toyota genuine part is used, the pre-crash safety city sensor may not be able to be installed due to a missing bracket or the pre-crash safety system may not operate properly due to a difference in the transmissivity of the windshield glass or the shape of the black ceramic border.

PROCEDURE

  1. REMOVE WINDSHIELD WIPER ARM COVER

  2. REMOVE FRONT WIPER ARM AND BLADE ASSEMBLY

  3. REMOVE FRONT FENDER TO COWL SIDE SEAL LH

  4. REMOVE FRONT FENDER TO COWL SIDE SEAL RH

  5. REMOVE FRONT NO. 2 SIDE AIR GUIDE (w/ Side Air Guide)

  6. REMOVE FRONT SIDE AIR GUIDE (w/ Side Air Guide)

  7. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

  8. REMOVE INNER REAR VIEW MIRROR ASSEMBLY

  9. REMOVE PRE-COLLISION CITY SENSOR (w/ Pre-collision System)

  10. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY LH

  11. REMOVE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP LH (for 3 Door)

  12. REMOVE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP LH (for 5 Door)

  13. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM BOARD RH

  14. REMOVE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP RH (for 3 Door)

    Tip:

    Use the same procedure as for the LH side.

  15. REMOVE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP RH (for 5 Door)

    Tip:

    Use the same procedure as for the LH side.

  16. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH

  17. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH

    Tip:

    Use the same procedure as for the LH side.

  18. REMOVE MAP LIGHT ASSEMBLY (for Normal Roof)

  19. REMOVE MAP LIGHT ASSEMBLY (for Canvas Top)

  20. REMOVE VISOR ASSEMBLY LH

  21. REMOVE VISOR ASSEMBLY RH

    Tip:

    Use the same procedure as for the LH side.

  22. REMOVE VISOR HOLDER LH

  23. REMOVE VISOR HOLDER RH

    Tip:

    Use the same procedure as for the LH side.

  24. SEPARATE ROOF HEADLINING ASSEMBLY

    1. w/ Pre-crash Safety City Heater:

      1. Disconnect the connector.

    2. Slightly lower the front section of the roof headlining assembly so that the windshield glass can be removed.

      Note:

      Do not damage the roof headlining assembly or vehicle interior.

      Tip:

      It is not necessary to completely remove the roof headlining assembly.

  25. REMOVE WINDSHIELD GLASS SUB-ASSEMBLY

      Protective Tape

      Apply protective tape to the area around the installation position of the windshield glass sub-assembly on the vehicle body to prevent it from being scratched.

      Matchmark

      Place matchmarks on the windshield glass sub-assembly and vehicle body on the locations indicated in the illustration.

      Tip:

      Matchmarks are not necessary if the windshield glass sub-assembly is not going to be reused.

    3. B370889C01

      Windshield Glass Stopper

      *a

      Piano Wire

      Pass a piano wire between the vehicle body and windshield glass sub-assembly from the interior.

    4. Tie both wire ends to wooden blocks or similar objects that can serve as handles.

    5. Cut off the adhesive by pulling the piano wire around the windshield glass sub-assembly.

      Note:
      • When separating the windshield glass sub-assembly, be careful not to damage the paint or interior and exterior ornaments.

      • To prevent the safety pad from being scratched when removing the windshield glass, place a plastic sheet between the piano wire and safety pad.

    6. Disengage the windshield glass stoppers.

      No. 1 Windshield Glass Stopper

      No. 2 Windshield Glass Stopper

      Note:
      • The No. 1 windshield glass stoppers and No. 2 windshield glass stoppers are installed on the windshield glass sub-assembly as shown in the illustration. Be careful not to damage the windshield glass sub-assembly when cutting off the adhesive.

      • To prevent the windshield glass from falling when performing this operation, be sure to hold the windshield glass using suction cups.

      Tip:

      Depending on the vehicle, either 1-piece type or 2-piece type stoppers may be present.

    7. Using suction cups, remove the windshield glass sub-assembly.

      Note:
      • Be careful not to drop the windshield glass sub-assembly.

      • Leave as much adhesive on the vehicle body as possible when removing the windshield glass sub-assembly.

  26. REMOVE WINDOW GLASS ADHESIVE DAM

    1. When reusing the windshield glass:

        Back Side

        Using a scraper, remove the 4 window glass adhesive dams from the back side of the windshield glass.

        Note:
        • Be careful not to damage the windshield glass.

        • Be sure to replace the window glass adhesive dams with new ones.

  27. REMOVE NO. 1 WINDSHIELD GLASS STOPPER (for 1-piece Type)

    1. When reusing the windshield glass:

        Back Side

        Using a scraper, remove the 2 No. 1 windshield glass stoppers from the back side of the windshield glass.

        Note:
        • Be careful not to damage the windshield glass.

        • Be sure to replace the 1-piece type No. 1 windshield glass stoppers with new 2-piece type No. 1 and No. 2 windshield glass stoppers.

  28. REMOVE NO. 2 WINDSHIELD GLASS STOPPER (for 2-piece Type)

    1. When reusing the windshield glass:

        Back Side

        Using a scraper, remove the 2 No. 2 windshield glass stoppers from the back side of the windshield glass.

        Note:
        • Be careful not to damage the windshield glass.

        • Be sure to replace the No. 2 windshield glass stoppers with new ones.

  29. REMOVE NO. 1 WINDSHIELD GLASS STOPPER (for 2-piece Type)

      Remove the 2 No. 1 windshield glass stoppers from the vehicle body.

      Note:

      Be sure to replace the No. 1 windshield glass stoppers with new ones.

  30. CLEAN WINDSHIELD GLASS

    1. When reusing the windshield glass:

      1. B149736

        Using a scraper, remove any remaining adhesive dam and adhesive residue from the windshield glass.

        Note:

        Be careful not to damage the windshield glass.

      2. Clean the outer circumference of the windshield glass with a non-residue solvent.

        Note:
        • Do not touch the windshield glass surface after cleaning it.

        • Even if using a new windshield glass, clean the windshield glass with a non-residue solvent.

  31. CLEAN VEHICLE BODY

    1. Clean and shape the contact surface of the vehicle body.

        Using a knife, cut away excess adhesive on the contact surface of the vehicle body as shown in the illustration.

        Note:

        Be careful not to damage the vehicle body.

        Tip:

        Leave approximately 1.0 mm (0.0394 in.) of adhesive on the vehicle body.

      2. Clean the contact surface of the vehicle body with a piece of cloth saturated with non-residue solvent.

        Tip:

        Even if all the adhesive has been removed, clean the vehicle body.
