DRIVE BELT ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

  1. CHECK DRIVE BELT TENSION

    A01E0IME01

    1. Visually check the belt for cracks, oiliness or wear. Check that the belt does not touch the bottom of the pulley groove.

      If necessary, replace the belt.

    2. A01DXDZE01

Check the drive belt deflection by pressing on the belt at the points indicated in the illustration with 98N (10 kgf, 22 lbf) of pressure.

      Standard drive deflection
      Item Specified Condition
      New belt

      7.5 to 9.5 mm

      (0.30 to 0.37 in.)

      Used belt

      9.0 to 13 mm

      (0.35 to 0.51 in.)

      • If necessary, adjust the drive belt deflection.

        Reference:

    3. Using a belt tension gauge, check the drive belt tension.

      Standard drive belt tension
      Item Specified Condition
      New belt

      441 to 539 N

      (45 to 55) kgf

      Used belt

      245 to 343 N

      (25 to 35) kgf

      • If the belt tension is not as specified, adjust it.

    4. A01E2QKE01

Check the drive belt deflection by pressing on the belt at the points indicated in the illustration with 98N (10 kgf, 22 lbf) of pressure.

      Standard drive belt deflection
      Item Specified Condition
      New belt

      11 to 15 mm

      (0.43 to 0.59 in.)

      Used belt

      15 to 20 mm

      (0.59 to 0.79 in.)

      • If necessary, adjust the drive belt deflection.

        Reference:

    5. Using a belt tension gauge, check the drive belt tension.

      Standard drive belt tension
      Item Specified Condition
      New belt

      372 to 608 N

      (38 to 62 kgf)

      Used belt

      196 to 392 N

      (20 to 40 kgf)

      • If the belt tension is not as specified, adjust it.

    6. A01DYVUE01

Check the drive belt deflection by pressing on the belt at the points indicated in the illustration with 98N (10 kgf, 22 lbf) of pressure.

      Standard drive belt deflection
      Item Specified Condition
      New belt

      7.0 to 10 mm

      (0.28 to 0.39 in.)

      Used belt

      10 to 14 mm

      (0.39 to 0.55 in.)

      • If necessary, adjust the drive belt deflection.

        Reference:

    7. Using a belt tension gauge, check the drive belt tension.

      Standard drive belt tension
      Item Specified Condition
      New belt

      441 to 539 N

      (45 to 55 kgf)

      Used belt

      196 to 343 N

      (20 to 35 kgf)

      • If the belt tension is not as specified, adjust it.

        Note

        • Check the drive belt deflection at the specified point.

        • When installing a new belt, set its deflection value as specified.

        • When checking a belt used for over 5 minutes, confirm the deflection value is within the specified range.

        • When reinstalling a belt used for over 5 minutes, perform the check based on the used deflection value.

        • V belt tension and deflection value should be checked after 2 revolutions of engine cranking.

        • When using a belt tension gauge, confirm the accuracy first by using a master gauge.
