ECD SYSTEM, Diagnostic DTC:P1016

DTC Code DTC Name
P1016 One of the Air Temperature Sensors

DESCRIPTION

The ECM compares the values from each temperature sensor for appropriateness once per driving cycle during a cold start.

DTC P1016 is output when multiple values are determined to be inappropriate and the malfunctioning sensor cannot be determined.

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

Note:
  • When replacing the ECM, the ECM needs registration and initialization.

  • After replacing the mass air flow meter sub-assembly, the ECM needs initialization.

Tip:
  • When the ECM must be replaced, before replacing the ECM, perform the "Learning Values Save" function using the GTS. Then after installing the new ECM, perform all of the initialization/registrations for the "Learning Values Write" function by following the instructions shown on the tester display.

  • Read freeze frame data using the GTS. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P1016)

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the GTS on.

    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.

Powertrain > Engine and ECT > Trouble Codes

    4. Read the DTCs.

  2. READ VALUE USING GTS (INTAKE AIR, INTAKE AIR TEMP (TURBO), TEMPERATURE DOWN STREAM OF EGR COOLER AND TEMPERATURE OF ENVIRONMENT AIR)

    Note:

Perform the inspection while the engine is cool (engine coolant temperature within 25°C +/-5°C).

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the GTS on.

    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Intake Air, Intake Air Temp (Turbo), Temperature Down Stream of EGR Cooler and Temperature of Environment Air.

      Intake Air Temp (Turbo)

Temperature Down Stream of EGR Cooler

      Temperature of Environment Air

    4. Read the value.

      OK

Difference between actual temperature and displayed temperature is 25°C (45°F) or less.

      Tip:

Check the values and confirm the items to be replaced.
