DIFFERENTIAL CASE DISASSEMBLY

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

Note:

When replacing any tapered roller bearing, replace both the tapered roller bearing and tapered roller bearing outer race with new ones.

PROCEDURE

  1. REMOVE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL CASE FRONT TAPERED ROLLER BEARING

      Hold

      Using SST, remove the front differential case front tapered roller bearing from the front differential case.

      Note:

      Do not damage or deform the cage of the front differential case front tapered roller bearing (when reusing the front differential case front tapered roller bearing).

      Tip:

      Install the claw of SST under the front differential case front tapered roller bearing at the indented part of the front differential case.

  2. REMOVE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL CASE REAR TAPERED ROLLER BEARING

      Hold

      Using SST, remove the front differential case rear tapered roller bearing from the front differential case.

      Note:

      Do not damage or deform the cage of the front differential case rear tapered roller bearing (when reusing the front differential case rear tapered roller bearing).

  3. REMOVE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL RING GEAR

      Matchmark

      Put matchmarks on the front differential ring gear and front differential case.

    2. Remove the 6 bolts.

      Using a plastic hammer, remove the front differential ring gear from the front differential case.

  4. INSPECT FRONT DIFFERENTIAL SIDE GEAR BACKLASH

  5. REMOVE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL SIDE GEAR

    1. G021407

      Using a 3 mm pin punch and a hammer, remove the front differential pinion shaft straight pin from the front differential case.

      Front Differential Pinion Thrust Washer

      Front Differential Side Gear Thrust Washer

      Front Differential Case

      Remove the front differential pinion shaft from the front differential case.

    3. Remove the 2 front differential pinions and 2 front differential side gears from the front differential case.

    4. Remove the 2 front differential pinion thrust washers and 2 front differential side gear thrust washers from each gear.
