TURBOCHARGER ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

PROCEDURE

  1. VISUALLY INSPECT HOSES, CONNECTIONS AND GASKETS

    1. Check that the hoses and gaskets are not cracked or damaged, and that there are no air or oil leaks from connections.

      Tip:

Cracked hoses and gaskets or loose connections may cause the engine to run improperly or stall.

  2. INSPECT TURBOCHARGER SUB-ASSEMBLY

    Note:

Perform this procedure in a safe location with another person.

    1. Start the engine and warm it up.

    2. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    4. Turn the GTS on.

    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / Boost Pressure Sensor

Powertrain > Engine > Data List

      Tester Display

      Boost Pressure Sensor

    6. Fully accelerate the vehicle with the shift lever in 2nd and measure the boost pressure when the engine speed is 4000 rpm (approximately 60 km/h (39 mph)).

      Standard Pressure

      120 kPa (1.2 kgf/cm2, 17 psi)

If the result is not as specified, check the waste gate valve actuator and turbocharger sub-assembly.

  3. INSPECT AIR BY-PASS VALVE ASSEMBLY

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Activate the Air Bypass Valve

Powertrain > Engine > Active Test

      Active Test Display

      Activate the Air Bypass Valve

      Data List Display

      Air Bypass Valve Control

    5. According to the display on the GTS, perform the Active Test and check the operation and operation sound of the air by-pass valve assembly.

      Standard

ON is displayed for Data List item "Air Bypass Valve Control"

Air by-pass valve assembly operates (operation sound is normal)

If the result is not as specified, check the turbocharger sub-assembly.
