  • After replacing the ECM, the new ECM needs registration Click here and initialization Click here.

Tech Tips

This chart is based on the premise that the engine can crank normally. If the engine cannot crank normally, proceed to Problem Symptoms Table Click here.

PROCEDURE

  1. READ VALUE USING INTELLIGENT TESTER (STARTER SIGNAL)

    1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    3. Turn the tester on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Starter Signal.

    5. Read the value.

      OK
      Ignition Switch Condition Starter Signal
      ON OFF
      START ON

    NG
    OK
  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (STARTER RELAY [ST] - ECM)

    1. Remove the starter relay (ST) from the engine room relay block and junction block assembly.

    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      ST relay terminal 1 - E5-7 (STA) Always Below 1 Ω
ST relay terminal 1 or E5-7 (STA) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reinstall the starter relay (ST).

    5. Reconnect the ECM connector.
