FUEL SYSTEM(w/ Canister Pump Module) ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK FUEL PUMP OPERATION AND INSPECT FOR FUEL LEAK

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

      Note:

      Do not start the engine.

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. for 2WD

Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the Fuel Pump / Speed.

Powertrain > Engine and ECT > Active Test

      Tester Display

Control the Fuel Pump / Speed

    5. for 4WD/AWD

Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the Fuel Pump / Speed.

Powertrain > Engine and ECT > Active Test

      Tester Display

Control the Fuel Pump / Speed

    6. Check the fuel pump operation.

      1. Check for pressure in the fuel inlet tube from the fuel line. Check that the sound of fuel flowing in the fuel tank can be heard.

If there is no sound, check the C/OPN relay, fuel pump, ECM, fuel pump control ECU and wiring connector.

    7. Check for fuel leaks.

      1. Check that there are no fuel leaks after performing maintenance anywhere on the system.

If there are fuel leaks, repair or replace parts as necessary.

  2. CHECK FUEL PRESSURE

    1. Using a voltmeter, measure the battery voltage.

    6. Wipe up any gasoline.

    7. Reconnect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.

    8. Start the engine.

    9. Measure the fuel pressure at idle.

      Fuel pressure

      304 to 343 kPa (3.1 to 3.5 kgf/cm2, 44 to 50 psi)

If the pressure is not as specified, check the fuel pump and injectors.

    10. After checking the fuel pressure, disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal and carefully remove SST and the fuel tube connector to prevent fuel from spilling.

    11. Reconnect the fuel tube.
